Hi Moms,

My daughter just turned two on 18th and she stop taking nap on 24th. is this normal. She was sleeping total of 13 to 14 hours including nighttime sleep and daytime nap. Now she just sleeps straight 13 to 14 hours without nap. Is it normal? She doesn't seem cranky around evening either.

My son also did this. One thing that I did that is working is telling him that he doesn't have to sleep, but he has to stay in his bed and be quiet and rest. I give him a couple of books (he picks them out) that he can read. SOMETIMES he falls asleep while reading.

They are all different. I sure would not like one not taking a nap because that is my time to rest and do things I need to do. But I remember when my son was about 4-5 he would fall asleep about 4 or 5 pm and it was wherever he was. Once time he went outside and fell asleep under a huge tree. Then another time he was playing and he fell asleep behind the couch. The doctor at the time said that is just his body and he will probably do that his whole life. But he outgrew it. If she is not crankly then I guess maybe wake her up about 10 hours and see if she will get tired later on. I do know it is really hard in Day Cares to have one wide awake when the rest sleep and they all have to have nap time and if they do not sleep quiet time. But best if they all sleep. My children interact with each other and we do some work book stuff and in Day Care there is more of a focus on doing with children as a parent I was focused on housework and chores. So the children get tired and after a cooked lunch they are ready to go down. Seems the 3 yr olds sleep longer then the 2 yr olds. Just depends on the days activities. When we run a lot and interact with our minds we get exhausted easier. Take care and keep her busy. God Bless G. W

Both of my kids did this. I think it is very normal. Just learn to have soft music quiet time or quiet reading time. Anything to give you a sanity break.

We thought our son was giving up the nap at 2 also. We made him do the "quiet/rest" time like so many others suggested and after a while we figured out that we just needed to move it back an hour. He is almost four and still naps for at least 2 hours a day.

my daughter goes through phases. sometimes she takes one everyday sometimes she doesn't. you may find that she will start taking naps again. we always have quiet time where they have to stay in their beds for at least an hour. they can read or play quietly. sometimes she will play nicely for an hour and THEN fall asleep! :)

I would still offer the nap; however, she may only play for an hour or so in bed. She needs some quite time still at this age and most likely will fall asleep eventually. I have a 2 1/2 year old and on occassion my daughter will go through the day without taking a nap. She will just sit in bed for two hours and never fall asleep. I put books on her end table. Also, you may want to make sure she is getting enough excerise - playing outside, using her mind, etc. I notice when my daughter has a very active day she is more inclined to nap easily which is good for her brain as well. However, I would say about 99% the time she falls asleep. Probably just a phase.

Good luck!

Yep, my 2 year old still naps some, but I can tell she is slowly giving it up (and my 6 year old quit napping before she turned 3, pretty much cold turkey). We did a quiet rest time like the pp mentioned - music, books, whatever as long as she stayed in her room. On the days it wasn't convenient we just didn't worry about it. Just enjoy the long night :-)

My son did the same thing, he will occasionally take naps on very busy days or at school but he never takes a nap at home anymore and hasn't since he was 2.
