My little girl is 14 months and eats just about anything that you give her. I am an EXTREMELY picky eater and don't want her to be the same. So far she is not but I find myself feeding her the same things because it something easy to just take out of the cupboard and microwave. Can anyone give me suggestions of things that I could make her that are healthy yet simple, so I can be sure to give her a variety?

What can I do next?

Hi J.
Have you tried sweet potatoes? Just wash it, poke some holes in it, microwave it for about 4 minutes (experiment with your microwave and the size of the potato) and cut into pieces for her to pick up. I also have a small steamer that I use for frozen veggies.

I mostly fed my son whatever we were eating, as long as it wasn't too spicy. I am not a picky eater but I LOVE that he gobbles raw tomatoes, which I can't stand! Good for you for making sure to introduce your daughter to a variety of foods, even if they aren't your favorites.

My 13 month old loves mac-n-cheese! I beef it up by putting frozen oeas in it. I will also add pureed cauliflour and shredded chicken from a can. You could also put pureed chick peas or white beans in it.

She does really well with over steemed broccoli or carrots! Make sure they are really soft.

Let's see...... she loves all kind of fruit. Manderine oranges is her fav! Diced peaches or fruit cocktail, bananas, grapes, strawberries.

When we are on the run instead of packing a peanutbutter and jelly sandwich I make a jelly and cream cheese sandwich.

She will also eat any soups I just drain off excess broth. She will eat chili (loves the beans so I put double the beans in the recipe).

She also eats tons of chicken nuggets (made from real white chicken breast- Dino's from Costco).

She also like corn or mixed veggies.

I pretty much serve the same few things - she never gets bored of them. Not yet anyway.

my daughter eats a lot of the same things as Sharon S. However, she doesn't like meats which is my challenge. I don't want to feed her processed meats like lunch meat and hot dogs...i am going to look into the dino nuggets from costco....

i feed my daughter eggs a lot. i scramble one egg with some shredded cheese. sometimes i will put a little chopped up broccoli in the pan with a little butter first, or some tomatoes. she even ate them once with a spinach/onion/feta mixture left from a party appetizer we made!
veggies and fruits are easy, since they are mostly soft (when cooked for veggies). it's tough now that not many fruits are in season. we buy mott's healthy harvest applesauce (no added sugar), and yo baby yogurt. kiwi's are cheap right now, and she loves them with cottage cheese. i also give her a tortilla folded in 3 with cream cheese, jelly, or tzatziki (greek yogurt dip). she didn't like bread for a while, but will now eat bread with cream cheese.

it's tough... i try to feed her healthy things, but also tryt o remember that at this age, they need fat and calories...i limit sugary stuff, but am happier to give her things with actual sugar rather than fake stuff and high fructose corn syrup...same with butter - i prefer that over hydrogenated oils.

J.,

I have an electric vegetable steamer and found it very useful for feeding toddlers. Just steam the veggies until a little over done. Toddlers tend to like bland foods, if your trying to develop her palate try giving her healthy things, fruits, veggies, whole wheat pasta and multi grain breads. If she starts liking these things now they will be the foods she turns to when she is older. Good luck.
