Hello,

My 7 month old is having a hard time getting his #2 out. He gets red in the face from pushing, cries, and tries really hard to push, the surprise in the diaper is firmer than usual but not hard. I know it's gross, but thanks for your help and that's what we're here for, right? My question is do you know what I could give him to help with the constipation? Also, what are the foods or juices that can cause constipation?

Thanks for any help and advice,
M.

Hi. 2 of my nieces suffer with constipation. The doctor said fruits (or juice) that begin with a P (Pinapple, plums, pears etc.) help with constipation. Also, my sister-in-law was told that molasses helps. How you fit that into the diet I am not sure, but she does. Good luck..

bananas and berries can be binding. Prune juice is great for helping them get it out, and a little goes a long way. I give my son 1 oz and within two hours he is free and clear.

Both my kids were constipated. With my daughter, we put prune juice mixed with her formula (I was also nursing, harder to get the prune juice in there :-)). With my son, if he hadn't pooped all day, at night I would give him a glycerin suppository at night. You get them at the drug store. There is a pediatric size. It sounds gross, but worked like a charm. You insert it into their tush and (this is gross) but make sure that their rectum is closed over it before puting the diaper back on. It usually worked in 10-15 minutes. Sometimes sooner. Ask your pediatrician first, but it should be okay. Good luck.
