Questions About Wipe?

I have been buying my 11 month old son Wet Ones wipes to clean his hands and face when we are out and about. I was wondering if I can use the wipes I use to clean his bottoms to clean his hands and face so I don't have to spend money buying 2 different types of wipes.

Thanks.

So What Happened?

I want to add that the Wet Ones that I've been using is alcohol and fragrance free and clinically proven to be safe for babies. That is what the bottle said. However since many mamas responded saying that it's okay to use the wipes I use for my little one's bottom for his hands and face, that is what I will start doing to save money. Thanks for all the responses so far.

I use the regular wipes to wipe all body parts when necessary it more economical I have five kids and none of them suffer ill affects. But never flush anything but toilet paper and human waste all those wipes that say they are flush able if used by many in the house will clog any system . Good Luck!

I would think so. But, if you want an even less expensive, but more wonderful solution, you can make your own. It's really easy. You cut a paper towel roll in half (I use the softest ones, like Viva, but also, Bounty works well), and take out the middle cardboard tube. Then in a tall rubbermaid container (that will fit the papertowel roll). Pour in 2 c of warm water, about a Tbsp of an oil (I like almond oil, but others will work), and about 5 drops each of Lavender Oil and Tea Tree Oil. Swirl that around and put your paper towel roll in. Put the lid on and wait a few hours (I make them the night before and they are ready in the morning). Then, just pull them out from the center where they cardboard tube was. They are pre-cut, so the size is right. They are soooo soft and smell so good. And, the tea tree disinfects while the lavender soothes. Wonderful! I could never go back to the store bought ones. We're so spoiled!

Oh, my yes! I'm not even sure why Wet Ones are found in the baby aisle--they're way too harsh for young children. Please go ahead and just use the ones you've been using on his bottom for his hands/face. Some places even offer BOGO deals on those brands too...or carry economy packs that help lessen the financial strain.

Definitely. I wouldn't let the Wet Ones near my kids' faces OR bums. Too many chemicals. If you go here, you'll see that many brands of children's wipes are full of icky stuff you shouldn't put on your little ones' 'parts': http://www.cosmeticsdatabase.com/
The best one I've found is Earth's Best wipes--I feel comfortable using them in the nursery for diaper changes and in the car/lunch box for faces/hands.
For the sake of sanitization, I carry Clean Well antibacterial spray for hands/eating surfaces--it's alcohol free.

i always use the regular wipes to clean everything, this includes all parts of my baby,, my face, my couch, my table, my ceiling fan blades, my shades, my mirrors my windows.

i love those things

as long as your son does not have sensitive skin i see no issues, plus if he has sensitive skin then his diaper wipes should be alcohol/fragrance free as well

Have you ever read the back of a Wet Ones wipe box? Depending on which version you are using, it says very specifically not to use on children under 2 years of age or to keep out of reach of children. This is because an infant's skin is more porous and so absorbs the alcohol and chemicals. I'm always surprised how few people actually read the warnings on standard products. You should ONLY be using diaper wipes on your child at this age.

Yep! I still use the sensitive wipes on my nearly two year old and they work great for that quick wipe on hands and face. If there's a bacterial concern on their hands I would have them use soap and water or maybe purell, but I find they are gentler on the face...my kids faces get red if I use things too harsh, so I like that these are gentle.
Enjoy saving the money (and carrying one less thing!).

Yes, I do that all the time in the car when they eat something or make a mess. If you are worried about hands after being at a playground or something like that, you might want to go with something antibacterial instead.

The Wet Ones aren't flushable---so I would say NO. They are probably not as gentle either. :-)

Sorry M.--I misread your question--yes better to use diaper wipes for his face & hands than the other way around!

What about good old fashioned soap and water? No worries about "carrying two kinds", "fragrances" or other additives. You should be carrying a water bottle for you any way, why not carry a bigger one that you can dampen a cloth use it. Sometimes these "modern day conveniences" are more harmful to baby than we know. (and consider the environment when you "throw everything away")

Yes! I buy the purple package - "White Cloud" brand @ Walmart for $1.50 per - they come in lightly scented, and unscented and we "don't leave home without them". My daughter is 6 now - and I have them in the car at all time, take them in restaraunts, have them in the living room just in case at home etc... They are not found in the baby dept - you find them in HBA - between the pharmacy and makeup.

I bought the unscented kind for my daughter and used them for everything. Now that she's 2 and potty trained, I still keep them around for random spills and messy faces. We never had a problem.

I always used the regular baby wipes to clean my kids' hands. The great thing is that no matter how hot it got in the car, the wipes did not dry out. I kept a container in the car until they were 6 or 7. Easier to trying to find someplace to wash up. Also at home, sometimes not worth trying to get into the bathroom to wash their hands and face.

just put your baby wipes in a ziplock, then you can use them for hands bums and face - I use members mark from sams, and they are better than huggies and way way x 1000 times cheaper than wet ones
