Questions About Pictures with Santa

I'm thinking of visiting a Santa this year so I can get a picture of my kid's first Christmas (born just after last Christmas) sitting with Santa (provided she isn't scared and crying, but she's good with strangers so it will probably work out fine). Anyway, since I've never done this before I wasn't sure how it worked. Any suggestions of Santas to visit in the Tulsa area? I know Utica Square has one, and the Promenade mall, but I don't know if you can just plop your kid on Santa when it's your turn and take your own picture with your own camera for free, or if they take professional shots that you have to pay for. Anyone know? Thanks, this is new for me!! I know when I was a kid there was a santa in our local grocery store where you could take your own picture for free, but I don't know if anyone does it that way anymore. I really don't want to buy a professional photo package, that probably gets expensive.

What can I do next?

Don't know if there is a Bass Pro in the Tulsa area, but they give you a free picture even if you don't order a package.

Hi S.. I saw a Santa in our Wal-Mart the other day and an associate was taking pictures. I'm sure that those would be inexpensive (if they cost anything). You could call the Wal-Mart in your area to see if they are doing this also, then get times when Santa will be available for pictures. Good luck and congrats on baby's first Christmas!!!

I don't know about your area, but here in Mobile, we only have one Santa, and you have to buy a picture from them. Instead of buying the full packages they have though, for a lesser price, you can get a digital copy on a CD and either print it at home, or get it printed at a drugstore. It's usually under or around ten dollars for the CD.

You can get free picture with Santa at the Bass Pro Shop. If you go to the mall you cannot take your own picture and theirs are really expensive.

i know our local Wal*Mart has a Santa that you can take your own pictures with, and the NWA Mall has a Santa, and they take professional pictures you have to pay for. In my opinion, the cost of the professional pictures are becoming ridiculous, but they are good quality pictures.

Woodland Mall has a Santa set-up to, the couple who run it are both very nice. You will have to found out from the Santa where you go if you can take your own pictures some will allow it some will not, I belive the one at the Woodland Hills Mall will. Also at your baby's age most kids will not cry but next year or the year other that she might. My advice for you is please do not expect the staff at the set to stop the baby from crying if she does. This happen to me many a time when I ran a set- if the kid is crying just take the shot anyway and you will have a cute picture in years to come.

My girls were just over a year and 3 when they sat on Santa's lap for the first time in the picture she's crying her head off! It's ok-it's kind of a funny memory which is why we bought a picture. I have heard that you just have to ask if you can take a picture or not sometimes they will let you-if the photo they take turns out bad, you don't have to buy one, or you can just get the cheapest one they offer- like I said it's a memory!

The one at Bass Pro is great! My daughter was afraid of Santa last year, but she went right to him. He is really sweet and the pictures are good.

hey S.,
most places do the package where you buy their pics... but check around your local area for a cabela's or bass pro. i know both have santas on the weekend... and i am sure that our local cabela's offers free santa pics. so you just show up and get the pics free that they do. as for the crying... you may want to expect it as your child is the very beginning age for stranger anxiety to begin or just know this is the last of the easy pics for just a little while. you may be safe this year at only 11mo/12mo... but watch out come easter bunny pics and then next year santa. we were 10 mo for our first santa pic... and well this year we just did the mall pricey package at the super stranger anxiety age of 21 months... and even though we are crying in the photo.. well it is cute too. best wishes... and good luck not getting suckored into the package options. again i would call around to see who offers what and even see if you can find a nearby cabelas for free photos.

Hi S.,
I know of one Wal-Mart that provides free pictures with santa (111th and Memorial). We take our daughter to Utica Square and they charge $5 per picture. I'm not sure if they allow people to take their own pictures or not. I hope that helps.

Here is the secret to getting your picture. Don't make a big deal about Santa before the pic. Walk up holding your baby with her back to Santa. Set her on Santas lap, keep talking so that she keeps looking at you, step back a few steps and snap your pic. By the time she figures out where she is, you will have the pic. Then if you want to introduce her to Santa, you can see if she is interested or cries. The big beard really is overwhelming to most kids.
