Questions About Mirena - Ypsilanti,MI

I've had Mirena since my six week check up (about 4 years now) and I'm having it removed Friday because it's starting to effect my health in not so nice ways; I'll have a period for a few months then I won't have one for a few months. I'm a little worried about my first period after Mirena; can any one tell me a bit about what to expect? Will it happen right away or will it take a few days or a week to come? Will it be heavy or light? I just want to be prepared. Thanks.

Once I'd finished that first period after it was inserted, I didn't have more than occasional spotting once every other month (like 36 hours worth) then when my husband and I separated almost a year ago, I started having them again; I haven't had a period since February. I'm not pregnant, I know that for sure. One of the reasons I'm getting rid of the Mirena is because I am seeing someone, and if by chance, I do get pregnant, I don't want to risk all of the health risks like etopic pregnancy or not even knowing I'm pregnant until it's too late.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I had it removed on Friday and I feel so much better; just some minor cramping and spotting. No period yet though, but my doctor said it could take months for my cycle to go back to normal.

Hi H.,

I had the Mirena removed several months ago and had light bleeding like a period for a few days and that was it. No period or bleeding since, however I am most likely going through menopause! Your experience may very well be different. I know you'll do great too! I wish you the best.

I got mine out in Jan., had my first period March 1st, then my second period April 12th. My periods were normal before I had the mirena. The rest of the period was just like before. My dr told me that if in two months I didn't have a period to call him and he would put me on a medicine to help with thickening up my uterus again. It will be normal for you not to recieve a period right away.

I'd put one response, because I didn't understand your question at first. Now re-reading it, I realize that you're asking about what could possibly happen upon removal.
I actually don't have an answer for that, as I still have my Mirena.

Good luck :-)

I am with Lucky2BEEaMOM, thanks for answering the question. I had mine removed about 6 weeks back and only spotted. I was wondering the same thing. Answering Heathers question, I wish I would have asked the DR the question when I was getting it removed, so make sure you ask. Good move and good luck!

I had mine removed after a few months and within a couple days I had my period - it was pretty normal - but I also started bc pills immediately after removal cause I'd read that the hormone level drops were pretty rough.

Good luck.

I was told by my doctor that my periods can be jumpy. One month I get one and one month I don't or not at all for awhile. Is that what's going on with your periods?? Sorry to not answer your question, just wondering if you were told all the information about Mirena.
