Hi Mom's,
I am in the process of making a selection for a new OB/GYN and wondering in making such decision how to make it easier by not only finding a top notch hospital to deliver, but also a pedi that will do a well-check on a newborn, and at the same time have the OB that I want. Seems likes its easy enough to find the right hospital based on the numerous recommendations on this site regarding various places; however, getting the right ob at the hospital you want and then in turn getting the right pedi established so you can get the well-check done at the hospital where you delivered is the challenging issue. I am one of those people that is seeking a new OB; b/c I feel like I did not get the gentle tender bed side manner the 1st time around with baby one, and now I am delimina to switch, but worry about switching and having to make a new selection for hospital and a new selection for Peditrician b/c of the wellness check done in the hospital etc. Can anyone offer some advice; and also if you can - can you tell me in your experiences which hospital was phenomenal experience (nurses, lactation staff, etc) and bar none why your ob was the best, if you have time. I prefer to be at a larger facility and have state of the art access to care (Just in case). We are in Coppell; but flexible.

What can I do next?

Well my internet connect is not working well, I sent a post but not sure it uploaded. Baylor Downtown Dallas is the most breastfeeding friendly hospital that also supports a woman's involvement in birth decision including natural childbirth. My Dr. is Yoland Lawson w/ women to women's she is super amazing. I delivered 2 sons naturally w/ her care.

Dr. Steven Harris/ Dr. Agarwall/ Baylor Downtown

Finding the perfect OB was very important for me. I have always had a fear of doctors (ob's in particular) and it was important that i have someone that i trust with the same values regarding healthy living as i do. From the first visit Dr. Harris made both my husband and myself very comfortable. You can tell that he just loves what he does. He seemed just as excited about our little one as we were. Truely a genuine and caring but most importantly skilled doctor. His staff is great too. I ended up delivering at Baylor which turned out to be a great expirience. The staff was so helpfull and they were exactly what i needed sometimes kind sometimes firm (especially during delivery when i didn't think i could make it). Dr Agarwall was the first pediatrician that our daughter saw in the hospital. Very kind woman with a very nice office. However it just wasn't the right fit for us personall. We are still on the hunt... I hope some of this was helpful.

Maybe I'm weird, but the hospital part of having a baby is a blip on the timeline of your life and the baby's life. I just went to the hospital my OB uses. And, really, any hospital in the metroplex should be equipped handle any problems that arise with a newborn, and can transfer to another place for the maintenance of that care if necessary.
Doesn't seem right to commute to have a baby...
The OB you choose is someone who'll likely see you through from now until your postmenopausal therapy, so that would seem the more important choice.
Also, I had C-sections with mine (first one breech, second one no dilation), so I didn't get to nurse right away. I had successful breastfeeding experiences with both kids. I really didn't expect the OB nurses or the on-call pediatrician to chart the course of my parenting or breastfeeding experience -- I have friends and a good lactation consultant for that!
I viewed the purpose of the hospital was to just get the baby out, dispense pain medication ;-) and make sure we were both OK enough to go home as soon as possible!

Hi K.,

I delivered at Plano Presbyterian. I love, love, love this hospital!! My daughter was born 8 weeks premature, they have the best NICU and the best staff! Everyone was so helpful, the nurses are absolutely wonderful! Plano Presby also has a brand new post pardum area and a new NICU since I was there a couple years ago. We're expecting our second child this October and I'm thoroughly looking forward to my days in the hospital! Oh - and the food is YUMMY!!! Sounds strange but yes, Plano Presby has a great menu for their room service!

Dr. Garner is my OB and he's located at Plano Presby as well. He is wonderful and I highly recommend him! ###-###-####

Congratulations and good luck!

K.,

I am also in Coppell and I travel to Plano Presby. I LOVE the facility.

I LOVE my OB - Traci Nivens ###-###-####. She is located at the hospital. Her whole staff is amazing. Traci is pregnant also and has been very supportive through all of this. She has a great bedside manner and I feel very confident in her abilities.

I just found my pediatrician, also at Presby, through a recommendation of a friend, Dr. Danny Kim ###-###-####. We interviewed him two weeks ago. Dr. Kim is so good natured and was very reassuring about calling anytime I have questions.

I can't say enough about my experiences with the facility and these doctors. I am high risk, so I am there weekly and the hospital is not just a blip on my radar. We have also taken a few of their classes, which were very good.

I will be having a c-section in 2 weeks and I have no doubts about any of the decisions I have made. I have a very healthy little girl on the way.

Congratulations and Good luck!
Jodi
