Hello ladies,

Just wondering what the consensus is on the use of bumper pads in a babies crib. I am due in 7 weeks and trying to put together the nursery. I have read conflicting sides. Any thoughts? Use them or not use them? Use them until a certain point or after a certain point? Thanks in advance.

What can I do next?

Congratulations, Lori! You will soon be adding a fun little boy to your original three furry children!! They will have a blast together! As for the bumper pads... I've used them with all three of my children. As long as they tie (on the outside of the crib) along the top and the bottom, you should be fine. I have never had a problem with the kids getting tangled in them or anything like that. They have been a help to their little heads when I check on them and their head is against the rail of the crib. It's got to feel better to have your head against the bumper pad than against the hard rail. I used them until I took them out of the crib at two years old. I think you'll be just fine!! Best of luck with the delivery!!

This is what we did. We took them out immediately because he was rolling on his side. After about 4 months, he started to get his leg or arm stuck between the bars, so we put them back. When he started pulling himself up, we took them out so he would not pull himself up and stand on them.

They do make breathable bumpers that, if they get their faces up against them: they can breathe through them, but they are just not as cute! :-)

They do no good and could do harm, so why risk it? No point in buying something that could suffocate your baby. My youngest moved around the crib at 2 weeks. I would have had to take them out then. I know plenty of babies who were just fine with them in for years. Just get a few cute sheets.

I read not to use them but my daughter would occasionally get her legs caught between the slats of her crib so I asked her pediatritian. She said NO WAY, my daughter wouldn't get hurt by having her legs stick out, but babies do suffocate in the bumbers. Congratulations! you'll have plenty of other cute things to spend your money on.

I took them off of my sons crib because when he would spit up in his bed, it was such a pain to take them off and wash them and then put them back on.
