I don't know if you can find one where you live but when I graduated a long time ago they had Money Lai's. Maybe you could find one of those to give him after the graduation ceremony.
My son is graduating from high school next weekend. We have a gift for him and are giving him a small party. My question is, what do you give boys at the ceremony to congratulate them. I remember getting flowers but I'm thinking that is not appropriate for a boy. What do you think?

Give him a lei, either a flower one or they make ones out of leaves as well. A florist would know, or even Cosco sells the flower ones. Look under Hawaiian lei.
Hello - We got each of our three kids, 2 boys, ages 27 and 19 years and a girl, now 25 years old a flower lei that they could wear at the high school graduation ceremony and gave them big hugs and kisses after it was all over. Making sure he has a camera, even a disposable one is really important. Graduation is a very emotional time for all and the photos help the greiving process of leaving high school and going on to new endeavors.
What about a balloon bouquet?
Hello K.: As I have several sons (3 by birth and 4 as foster) that have all proudly graduated, let me share what we have done.
We wrote each boy a letter telling them the important role they have in our family & how we woould be lost without them. I have given them candy lei's as they would rather eat it than look pretty ( it kept them busy as they waited their turn as well so they got one cany lei before and one after recieving the diploma. We also gave them if they did not know already a list of hints of what their gift would be.This they also got prior to recieving the diploma and it gave several kids the fun time to guess. For example our son that likes to hike- backpack, items needed for hike , map and compass, post cards of yosemite, Grand Canyon, Stone Mountain Georgia, places they might like to go and the last clue would tell him where he was getting to go.
For one son we had to bribe him to get his truck saying we just had to use it and when he got home that night he found a new bed liner and camper shell on it. He had wanted one for so long. One boy wanted a camera and he got the best pictures of people doing things while they waited for the stage crossing. Boys are so easy!!! As a fun thing just get them a gift certificate to their favorite store for us it is Carbalo's or Big 5 or for the fancy knife collection the local gun store. But they still like the traditional money and even flowers maybe not roses but carnations that are not so fussy. Congradulations on your graduate. I will pray that they are all safe that night and the nights to come. Nana G
A pen.
Just kidding, that's what someone gave me for my graduation. I have no good ideas. Money? Ipod gift card?
A flower Lei is very cool for the boys although a little pricey and or a Boutonniere (sorry on spelling on that) those would be great or be there with Non-Alcholic Champagne or Sparkeling Cider!
A watch is usually a grown-up man's gift. Something engraved with the date of this graduation perhaps?
I have always liked the leis (floral garland) made with the green leaves. I forget the name of them, but they have a real nice clean smell to them and look very nice on guys (and girls). I think one of those would be appropriate. They usually make them in a horseshoe shape instead of enclosed. It will also keep him cool with the polyester robe on. I hope this helps. Congratulations to the graduate!!!
Dear K.,
Depending on what he's wearing, how about a simple boutonniere that he can wear for the ceremony? Flower leis are popular too. I've seen plenty of boys getting flowers at graduations and usually they are from girls who are in the same graduating class. The guys don't seem to mind it....
Graduations are so fun and such a momentous occassion, but I always cry. I don't sob hysterically or anything, I just can't believe how quickly the time goes. Have a wonderful time and take LOTS of pictures!
Hi K.,
Flowers can be appropriate; present him with a lei of flowers when he graduates! You can buy them made through florists, but they aren't cheap. I remember buying one for my son at his graduation and it wasn't as bad as the ones I have bought through safeway florists or private florists.
I also learned to make one- and that consists of 4 dozen red carnations, so...or you can purchase the silk ones at even the dollar stores. Good luck! You can also get him balloons that say congratulations! Let me know how it turns out!
A gift at the ceremony is not necessary. A big hug and to be told how proud tyou are of him will mean more than anything else.
An 09 key chain, money clip or 09 tie tac.

How about a Lei? Either flower or a lot of times florists will make the leaf kind.
Lots of kids wear leis at graduation these days--boys and girls.
Congrats to the grad and the parents who supported himE
My son is graduating also this year. We're getting him a flower lei to wear at graduation. The grad nite committee sells them as a fund raiser. You can buy them at Safeway though. Hope that helps.
If you're already giving him a present and a party, I don't think you need to give him anything else except a big hug, and a "good job, big guy!"
A Master or Visa gift card is always good. That way he can get what he wants and remember that you gave him the money to buy it.
