Question in Regards to Fertility Treatment - Sonogram upon Success...

For others who have gone through fertility treatments, did you guys go ahead with the fertility clinic's sonogram upon pregnancy success or did you just go ahead and get in with your OBGYN? I'm not sure on what to do. They told me at my last blood draw that they like to do an early sonogram just to make sure everything looks good since I had difficulty getting pregnant...but it seems kind of redundant to me since the first thing my OBGYN is going to do once I get in is a sonogram. I don't want to rock the boat on their process, but I also don't want to pay for a sonogram that I may not necessarily need. Thanks in advance for any replies.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Just wanted to say thanks for the replies. I got in for my first OBGYN visit yesterday. My fertility doctor ended up releasing me after 2 sonograms. They had to confirm the existence of a 3rd baby. Yep, pregnant with triplets. I was originally trying to compare this pregnancy to my prior 2 and thus questioning the process and therefore posting this question. Turns out this pregnancy is a whole new ball game. :) Just thankful we are close to reaching our insurance deductible. :) Thanks again!

My RE followed my pregnancy until around week 10, confirming that the heart was beating, before discharging me to my OB. Most OBs don't want to see you much before week 10-12, near the end of the first trimester when the pregnancy is stable. I really enjoyed, and felt so much more assured, seeing the baby's heartbeat. It's probably best for you to be honest with your RE and ask how necessary it is.

I was seeing a fertility specialist when I got pregnant (naturally-LOL-go figure). Anyway, in answer to your question, the specialist followed me till I was 6wks. They did blood work for 2wks (after a + home test) then did an ultrasound to verify a heartbeat. I then went back to my OB/GYN. They didn't do another one till I was about 18wks. Are you sure that your OB is going to do another one since the fertility doc is doing one? They may not since one will have already been done. Hope this helps and congrats!!!

To be honest. There is NOTHING they can do whether everything looks good or not....... I would just skip the sonogram and wait till you're near the end of the first trimester and get one from your regular obgyn. IF they even do one then. Most will wait until the 20 week mark unless they have a reason (such as confirming due date if you didn't know when you conceived or if they think it's mulitples.)

I've had 4 miscarriages so I know. I've asked. But the docs have all said the same thing. There is nothing they can do at the beginning. There is no way to tell if all the genetic material is there to complete the first trimester.

My RE did one and did not release me until I was 6 weeks pregnant. When I called my OB they did not have me come in or do a sonogram until 9-10 weeks so I felt better knowing that I had already had one and it was ok. I know there is nothing that they can do if there is something wrong but being that it took soooo long to get pregnant it made me feel better anytime I could see my little baby growing! Also they will be able to tell you if you have more than one baby, if there was more than one your OB may have you do something different or want to see you earlier.

Good luck and congrads!
