This is my third kid but I never had this problem before. ;) My son is three month now and he is accually sleeping thru the night. Haha I love it. So my question is when my body is going to realize that I don't need any milk at night and stop waking up totally engorged and leaking everywhere? Both my other kids kept waking up till the were almost three years old so I am super excited I just wish I accually could enjoy the full night sleep. Sure my milk supply will adjust just wondering how long it will take. Thank you guys!!!

What can I do next?

probably about a month for me. in the meantime, I just woke up in the middle of the night and pumped if I was in pain :( no fun, but it'll get better!

If you feel uncomfortable, take a hot shower or pump a little, but not so much your body thinks you still need it. You can also take advantage of his sleep pattern to pump and store, if you prefer. Might be especially handy if you are working. Otherwise, it shouldn't take long for your body to figure it out.

Congrats. I never had the leaking problem. My ped actually suggested a glass of wine for me b/f bed to help me through the night. It took just under a week for my body to adjust to each "feeding" we were giving up.

Good luck and enjoy your rest.

I found that any change in feeding habits took my body a week or so to get used to it. However what I found was once my daughter slept through without waking to eat she'd chow in the morning and it kinda made up for it!
Good luck!

You can pump to help take the edge off the engorgement; then you are also building up a supply for your freezer! As I'm sure you know, this sleeping through the night might not last. In another month or so, your son might be waking up a few times during the night again. I was constantly getting clogged ducts and took lecithin to help smooth that out. Remember to trust your body, it will regulate itself for your son.

Everybody is different so it's hard to tell.
I have my fourth baby now and she is 6 months old and I feel like I don't have enough milk for her, so feel blessed.

Congrat's on your new little bundle of joy.

I pump right before I go to bed for that exact reason. Nothing is worse than waking before the baby, in pain and soaked. It should give you enough relief until your body adjusts and helps build a freezer supply. Good luck!

The growth spurt is coming up soon... but as you said - your body knows how to adjust!! Enjoy this sleep while you can! LOL

Your body will figure it out soon enough. Hope your full night of sleep lasts. Mine was sleeping through the night at 8 weeks. But somehwere around three months began waking 2 times a night and that has continued to date, she is 10 months old. I was worried about the opposite problem, that her night feeding would prevent her from getting all she needed in the day. So long as you exclusively BF, somehow it just works out. My SIL however pumped at 2:00 a.m. until she stopped BF, because she never could get past the pain of engorgment during the night. Her's was always a problem of overproduction, and mine started as a problem of underproduction.

Mine never adjusted.....but a quick 2 AM pump did the trick. It was better than waking up soaked and in pain or having to wake a sleeping baby to nurse. Hope you have better luck!
