yes, i wanted to get some opinions on this...
i want to take my daughter's Easter portraits, and i may have an opportunity to use a rabbit for one of them. i have used my magician uncle's rabbit before (he passed two years ago), and that one was used to being handled...but i'm wondering if a person can "rent" a rabbit or other animals in Lubbock? and if so, do you think it would be detrimental to the animal? i've read before that rabbits do not generally like to be handled or picked up a lot. a couple of years ago i ran into another photographer while taking photos myself and she had a rabbit ...told me she rented it. sooo...i'm hoping that someone has some ideas for me. to be clear, as much as i would love to have a live animal, i would rather use something else in the image if it would hurt the rabbit in any way. i love animals and would want to make sure it would be safe, for it and my daughter (who btw is 9 and not a very young child). thanks in advance

What can I do next?

In Kansas a tiger mauled a high school senior who went to have her senior photos done with a live tiger on an exotic animal farm.

Obviously a rabbit won't maul anyone - but just wanted to bring up the safety issue - scratches, bites, etc. Rabbit isn't the only animal in the scenario that could be injured....

We used to have a pet rabbit and people wanted pictures with him but I couldn't allow it because he was so feisty and pretty much would only allow daughter to handle him.

My hands have scars from feeding him and cleaning his cage... Ungrateful little thing he was!!!

But he was always perfect with daughter only... No friends, no one else could handle him. Her let her dress him up , etc but let me have food to him and he would bite my hands.

Just be careful about it and know the temperament of the animal.

Not sure about rabits being upset by being handled. If you are concerned, maybe you can put your child in a small enclosure with loose bunnies, hand her some carrots, and have the bunnies come to her rather than her handling the rabbits.

Same can be done with chicks.

Eggs, B. ears, baskets, bonnets are all good easter photo props. I think tulips, crocuses, pussy willow, forsythia, and other harbingers of spring are good props too.

Good luck to you and yours,
F. B.

When my kids were 7, I had Olan Mills take a photo of them with an outdoor background and our 3 dogs, 2 cats, and 2 snakes - they turned out WONDERFUL! OM even used them for advertisement on the east coast and gave me a 16x20 of them. They also took a second shoot without the snakes.....LOL

I realizer you're in Lubbock.... there is a photog in Denton who does a special Easter session every year with ducks and rabbits and such. One of his protoges is now located in Perryton, which is closer to you. Perhaps she could help? Her name is Kari Bailey. I can't seem to find the name of her business but I know she's on facebook if you want to contact her.
