Question About Tagging on Facebook

I have my security on facebook set so that only my "friends" can view my profile, etc. If someone tags me in a photo, I have my account set so that I have to approve it before it goes on my profile. But, does the photo still go out on the general facebook feed tagged with my name...for all to see? For example, I saw a photo of a 1st grade teacher I know doing shots at a bar while out with her friends, while she's an adult and can do what she wants I'd be really upset if a photo of me ever got out there like that (I work in a school.) Just curious.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I just hate the fact that anyone can post a picture of you or your kids, and so many just assume that it's okay and not ask permission. I don't know if getting off facebook is the answer, a picture could still be out there and you just wouldn't know about it, I'd rather know.

FB is not our friend, why do some many adults play around with this. I don't put phots of myself or my family on face book, I have one profile picture from like 30 years ago. FB is not a secure place no matter what you put in place, there are individuals that are very intellengent and can hack, change, copy, crop what ever so be careful what you use FB for. J.

Yep. Your name shows unless you remove the tag. Go to the photos of yourself, download the ones you want to keep/ save to your profile, and then untag yourself.

If it's a photo that you don't want up at ALL (and it's of you/your kids/etc.) and your friend won't take it down, FB has a report option and FB will pull the photo and send a nastygram threatening to cancel the account of the poster if they continue to post photos of other people that they do not have permission to. Obviously, this is a last resort option. Untagging keeps your name off, talking to your friend can mean they will pull (or crop so you're out of it).

to the best of my knowledge the photo shows up on their page and your page to let you know you are tagged.

If you are not friends, you cannot tag the person as it wouldn't link them to your account.

If I post a picture of you on my wall it is on my wall whether you approve it or not. My friends can all see it, whomever I have my settings for can see it too. The only thing you are approving is for the picture to show on your wall or not. Since it supposedly has you in the picture it gives you the opportunity to post it too.

I'm not sure about the setting for facebook but I do have one bit of advice for you. NEVER, EVER, post ANYTHING you don't want the WHOLE world to see or read on the internet. Even if you have your pictures set so only your friends can see them and can't tag them, there is always a way for them to "steal them" and post them to their wall or email them to someone. It's called "screen capture"! Sure, not everyone knows how to do that even though it's easier then you think (a couple clicks and it's done). But it only takes one person to do it and your whole reputation can be ruined!

Depends on the privacy settings of the poster. People they let see the pic can see it. If you don't allow the tag, it'll come off the picture... but if they recognize you the...

Also, if you allow the tag I'm pretty sure you're at the mercy of the POSTER's privacy settings in terms of who SEEs the tagged pic. Also, if you allow the tag on one picture in an album, people can click through and see the album so even if you're not tagged you can be recognized.

I'd probably no allow myself to be tagged by other people.

I'm not sure about the answer to your question, but I share your concern. I am not all familiar with what happens with tagging and sharing, but I am concerned because someone I am friends with, tagged herself in photos of my 2 year dgt and they are now on her page for her 300+ friends to see. I may be a little paranoid, but I am peculiar about where pictures of my child are posted, and I'm not sure there is anything I can do about it (except stop posting pics of my child on my page, which prevents people in my family who I don't see regularly from seeing how she is growing up.

I think that you got the answers that you needed below. I just have to add that I think it's good etiquette to make sure your family and friends know to ask permission before posting a picture of you or your kids. I think that people just don't think - I always ask and it not only gets me the information that I need, but it lets people who are a little clueless know that you should ask permission before posting pics of others. This is especially true with pics of other people's kids and I'm always amazed that it doesn't occur to people that maybe not everyone wants pics of his or her children posted on-line!

Well, you can't be too careful about FB privacy, so I'd disallow tagging and set your settings as HIGH as you can. There are a lot of crazy-stalker types out there who have no life other than to meddle in someone else's life. So pathetic, I know, but very, very true!
Maybe you can find the specific answer on FB Help? That might be the best place to look. Good luck!
