I personally used the medical card for my first pregnancy and it did cover the ultrasound. The ultrasound is a necessary part of your prenatal care. It's main purpose is not to determine the sex, it is to test for neurological deficiencies. If your doctor is not intending to provide an order for an ultrasound at all, I would seriously consider changing doctors. It may simply be that your doctor does not think your far enough along to provide for one yet. I would seriously advice asking the doctor for more details. It was through my ultrasound that my doctor was able to discover that one of my son's kidneys was swollen. It ultimately became normal size and he was born perfectly healthy but the point is that without the ultrasound, they never would have known. If your doctor still says he/she does not intend to order one because of the medical card, consider calling your case worker to find out what else you can do or if she is right.
