Question About Hosting a 31 Party

I'm hosting a 31 Party next weekend. I've never hosted one before I send out lots of invites, text messages, emails, and facebook requests and it appears that not a lot of people are coming. I'm kind of bummed. Will people that didn't RSVP show up?
Also, am I expected to have food and drinks at the party? I don't expect it to last more than an hour or two. I had thought about making a cheese ball, but I have no idea what else would be expected. A veggie tray maybe? Or should I do desserts? The party is scheduled for 2:00.

I asked my friend that sells (she's the one that's doing my party) and she just said "Whatever you want to do is fine" which does me NO good! LOL!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks! I'll definitely make my cheese ball. I'll make up a veggie tray with some dip and probably some buffalo chicken dip.

I would love to have wine, but most of the people that RSVP'd aren't drinkers. Plus, nobody I know drinks and drives. Even after one glass.

For the person that said cheeseballs show you don't care....well, you've never had my cheeseball. It's the second most requested item for family parties, right after my cracker mix. :D

Don't be bummed. I've been to the parties where as few as 3 people have shown up. I think the most amt of people at one was 10. I don't go sometimes because I am not interested in what is being sold or just can't afford it.

You should have food and drinks. Finger Foods would be just fine. I wouldn't over do it on the food though. I would say that Cheeseball and Veggie Tray would be fine or Maybe a cheese tray with pepperonis and Veggie tray.

I looked up-online-what a 31 party is-and now that I know you're trying to sell something to your guests-that may explain why many are not coming. All should have responded-which is another story. I would keep it simple-cheese ball, veggie platter and bake some brownies or cookies. With my friends-at the mere mention of wine and cheese or mini crab cakes and such-there would be a stampede to my door! If you want more people-you may have to dangle a carrot!

I would call people on the phone and invite them to come. It forces them to reply either way, so you're not left wondering. It's too easy for people to ignore emails, texts, evites, etc.

I think a cheese ball with crackers and a veggie tray is perfect.

I have been invited to a 31 party before and what I noticed is that the computer invite is very hard to read and to realize that it is an invitation that one would respond to. My friend who hosted the party had the same problem and when she talked to those women who did not show up she was told that they did not realize it was an invitation to something.

I would definitely have some food there.

2:00. Women and Handbags. HHHmmm. People will be more likely to buy after a glass or 2 of wine and the food shouldn't be greasy to get on the purses. So, I would do cheap wine. Get a couple of big white platters and put a colored napkin or a couple doilies or some faux greenery on the plate as a backdrop. Then put your cheeseball and maybe a few cheese cubes on one side with crackers alll around it. Put a clump of grapes and a few handfuls of strawberries to fill the plate. Do 2 of those and put them in differant areas so there will be flow in the room. That promotes onversation and cuts down on everybody standing in an akward serving line. If the invites are hard to read, call and email your friends a quick reminder.

I have hosted and held many 'at-home' parties. I keep it simple with either desserts, coffee and punch/lemonade but a 2pm party I would do your cheese ball and maybe one other thing to munch on. Make some instant teat & lemonade and your done! Dont stress over the snacks. And as long as you at 5 people show up your good, the more the better, I understand. Dont stress over it and just send out one last reminder a day or two before.
PS for your friends who decide NOT to attend due to finances, invite them to come hang out and eat anyway.

People who didn't RSVP will probably show up! I'd have all appetizer food. Cracker/cheeseball, chips and salsa/guac., rye bread pizzas, veggie tray, brownie bites.

Yes-you should def have food and drinks. I would be insulted if I went to one of those parties and the hostess couldn't even give me a drink and food but expected me to still buy something I don't need but will buy because I feel obligated. You should have wine, a veggie tray and a warm dip minimum. Nothing says I didn't really care like a cheeseball. Do an artichoke spinach dip. If you don't want to make it from scratch Friday's sells one in the supermarket that you can sprinkle some parm on and bake-its pretty good.
