Question About Help for Low-vision

I'm trying to help an elderly friend with diminishing vision. I found some writing paper with embossed lines on it which are designed to help people with writing difficulties. The lines are raised, and a dark color, to give guidance so the writer can feel the lines and see them clearly.

Now I would love something similar for envelopes, like business envelopes, so that the person could sense more easily where to write the address. My friend uses sticky labels for her return address but has trouble printing the address where the letter is to be sent.

Has anyone seen anything like that, or does anyone have any ideas to make this task easier? My friend lives alone, and nowhere near me, and doesn't have family, so it's not possible to just drop by and help address her envelopes. She loves writing letters to missionaries and to friends, and I just wanted to help her with an envelope solution. I sent her a lot of the paper and a Sharpie on a lanyard which has made the letter writing part such a joy for her. It's the envelope that remains the problem. Thanks!

What can I do next?

E., How wonderful for you to help your friend in such a thoughtful way.

My thought in the envelopes, if there isn't a way to get them pre-lined & embossed, is to have large colored stickers printed. Something in a neon pink or green, so she can clearly see the boundaries, and with 3-4 horizontal lines.

These can be affixed to the front of the envelope as a guide for her when addressing her envelopes. This can also serve the dual purpose of clearly identifying letters from her, much to the excitement of the recipient!

Another alternative, of course, is for her to type an address label on her computer & print it to stick on the envelope.

Hope this helps. T. =-)

Wow, usually I'm good with searching and finding even unusual things, but I can't find any envelopes designed for the visually impaired. You may have discovered something you need to invent and market!

It looks like an envelope with pre-printed address lines or a clearly defined address block space would make life easier for many people.

Perhaps to help your friend, you could buy a box of regular envelopes then use a ruler and a fine sharpie to draw lines for addressing, then send the box to her?
