does anyone know, how much should a six week old eat? i have six week old twins, getting breastmilk and formula. just wondering how much they should be eating and how often??? an estimate would be great. also, wondering if as they grow, does their daily intake increase OR do they just eat more each sitting therefore allowing them to go longer until next eating... therefore eating more or less the same amount. thanks!
My daughter is now 8 months old, when she was about 6 wks old she was eating about 7 feedings per day. the feedings were about 3 ounces on average per feeding - it was really anywhere from 2 and a half to 3 and a half ounces per feeding. As she has grown, she has eaten more per feeding and now has less feedings. She now has five feedings per day (bottle, cereal and fruit/veggies.) I hope that helps. J.
There is a formula out there somewhere that tells you approx what they should be getting. I have twins too and I know it feels like all you do is feed them at that age. But...as they get older they get more efficient at the breast and can get more milk in less time. Mine are 7 months now and can suck down six ounces in five minutes or less if I let them.
Hang in there it does get easier.
I think a 6 week old should eat 1-3 ounces per meal. However, if you are nursing that is heard to measure, but figure it should take a total of 40 minutes, 20 minutes on each side. Ultimately, if they are getting the required number of wet diapers (for a 6 week old I think that is 6 per day) and gaining weight, then they are doing fine.
