Question About Depo

I was on the depo shot for 4 years. I came off of it in October, hoping to become pregnant. I knew that it was going to take a while for depo to get out of my system, and was I right!! Anyway, I just have started my first period in four years. My question is, now that I have finally started, is it possible to become pregnant now? And does anyone know how long this will take?????

What can I do next?

Oh, yes, it'll happen! My sister just turned 27 and has a 6 month old she conceived after her first post-depo period. It took about 5 or 6 months for her period to return and then she didn't have another one. She thought she was just still irregular. At 4 MONTHS she found out she was actually pregnant! If everything is working well with you and your husband, it shouldn't take too long. Also if you haven't tried them yet, there are ovulation predictors sold near the home pregnancy tests at any pharmacy. Those can help....um....focus your efforts I guess.

Relax and enjoy the trying. You'll get there!

I don't really have any better advice, just friendship amd sympathy. I was on the shot from july 1, 2003 to March of 2005. It is now march of 2007. I finally had my period this month and my husband and I are trying to be optimistic. I also have a mild case of P.C.O.S. We are trying for our second. I know exactly how you feel, and exactly what your going through. I'm always here if you need to talk or more importantly vent your FRUSTRATIONS.

It is possible to become pregnant now but that doesn't mean you will right away. You will have more luck if your cycles are normal for the next three months.

Hi L.
My road off Depo was a bit of a roller coaster. I was on the shot for 3 years, with some adverse side effects. So I decided to switch to pills. But, I developed a blood clot shortly thereafter and stopped taking those as well. With the pill, my cycle started right up, but once I stopped taking them it was up in the air. I was not very regular for a while. There was one time that I thought I was pregnant. When I finally started, I was CRUSHED. BUT I got pregnant, for real, about 9 months after I went off the shot. The most important thing I want to share with you is to just be careful, emotionally. I didn't let my cycle regulate before I started thinking about babies. That is what lead me to my heart ache. I don't know what it is like to lose a baby to miscarriage, but I think that I have felt at least part of that pain. All I am saying is to be careful and make sure that you don't get your hopes up the first time you are late. Please understand, I am not trying to be insensitive. I just got way too excited too fast and ended up with a broken heart. Best of luck to you and lots of baby wishes.

Well I honestly don't know. My doctor told me it can take up to 2 years to get pregnant after getting off the shot. I need to ask anyone though...I've been on the shot for 3 years and I'm over a week late in getting my next shot only because my medicaid worker forgot to send me the renewal forms so I have to wait until I get my medicaid back so anyway, my breast are starting to feel tender and my nipples are so sore and I was wondering if this was a side effect of missing my shot. Since you have been off yours I was wondering if you experienced any symptoms like this? I was so worried I might be pregnant because my husband and I have done something since I missed my shot but I've also been told it can take up to 2 years to get pregnant after getting off the shot so I have no idea. I spotted during the course of while I was on the shot. Near the time I needed to get another shot I would spot so did you? I'm sorry if this is to personal I just needed to ask because I've been a little worried. But my doctor says it can take up to 2 years unless you are a very very fertile woman. Thank you.

I was on the depo for about a year and a half. I went off of it becuase I was tired of getting fat. I didn't get a period at all and became very sick. I now have a 23month old boy named Koda :) Everyone's body acts differantly.

I was on depo for even longer than that before trying for our son, and I got pregnant before my period got regular again. One thing that helped me was a fertility tracking website www.fertilityfriend.com. Good luck!
