Don't do it! Ignore those calls when they come in. Just like email, if you don't know them, don't open them. They could be scams or worse: VIRUSES.
I just signed up for Skype on my iPad last week. I haven't used it yet (or even figure out how to) and I keep getting these 'calls' late at night on my iPad about 'System Notice' and I answered it one night and it said to go to some website because it needed to do system maintenance on my device. What?! I'm not checking out anything that I'm not sure about. Is this legit? I don't understand why it keeps trying to call. Like I said, I haven't even used Sype yet )or even how to really), so if this is a scam, I don't know how it got my Skype number. Not sure what to do or how to stop it. If it is a legit notice, then I'll go to the site but I want to be sure first. Don't know what is going on.
I figured it was a scam. Read the forum on Skype's website (thanks for the link). I only got Skype so I could call my Aunts and Uncle who live out west because my dad has been using Skype to talk to them. Unfortunately the spam callers info is 'greyed'out in the call history list so I can't even delete it or block it. I get 2-3 back to back calls around midnight-12:30am and it's annoying. I might just have to delete the app on my iPad if this continues. Skype needs a serious update! Unfortunately I accidentally answered on call because I saw the call coming in and unlocked my iPad hoping to turn off the call (I do this with my phone when I get junk calls) and I had no idea I was answering the call... Yeah, I was pissed about that.

I typed in "system notice call skype" in a google search. You should do the same. One of the links from Skype's website is below. It States these calls are spam/phishing calls. Other links appeared to tell you how to set your security up so you are less likiely to get these calls so you will want to check them out and follow the instructions. Skype may have their own internal search engine for their community or customer service pages. Search there if possible, so you get the best info.

Scam!! Don't do what it says. When I first started up with Skype, I would get these calls, too. I always "blocked" is when prompted to do so. Eventually, I stopped getting them!!!
We have Skype.
That has never happened to us.
We have the free Skype.
That notice does not sound, legit.
You do not have to have Skype, "on" all the time. You can exit, it and thereby it is turned off.
Only turn it on, or open the application, when YOU want to use it.
But, you should do a Google Search on "how to use Skype on an iPad."
You will find answers there.
Per the iPad... applications are always on... unless you completely "quit" the app. or turn it off.
So, there is that aspect to it too.
In addition to your Skype, always seeming to be "on."
Do you read through things when you signed up? They will tell you how they normally get in contact with you and how they don't get in contact with you. Go back into your account and see if they have some sort of inbox that has a message for you. I don't Skype, so I don't know if there is an inbox.
