We had our daughter in our room for the first year and used the Angel Care monitor. We had the same concern about the ceiling fan... it took a bit of adjusting (about an hour of testing and retesting) the sensitivity but we eventually got it right before we used it. Set the fan on the setting you usually like and then adjust to that. Make sure it will alarm with it on and nothing in the crib and you not walking or moving.
I will say, it claims it is not to prevent SIDS and my DR told me it is giving me a false sense of security. I know this has personally saved my daughter atleast once and possible 3 times. The first time she was not breathing and we caught it in time and was able to take her to the ER and then she was brought home on a apnea monitor. She was on that for just over a year... she was a preemie. Then 2 times since November it has gone off for very shallow breathing. She has been becoming hypothermic and when her body temp drops so low she barely breathes. We have had to call the ambulance to take her to the hospital where a team of DRs and nurses were waiting to re-warm her. Very scary!! I suggest this monitor for all Moms out there! It will help you sleep much better at night no matter what!
Do make sure as your daughter gets bigger and starts moving around in the crib that you have the extension that you can purchase later. It will help with a lot of the false alarms as they ball up in the corners and sides of the crib!
Good luck and blessings to you!
