My daughter LOVES dogs and we lost our Chow shortly after she was born. I think it is time to get her a puppy, but am not sure what kind to get?? I am thinking a small breed but do not what to spend a ton. Any suggestions on breed or where to get a puppy at a low cost??

Try looking on petfinder.com. That seems to be a very popular website. They list alot of breeds. As far as breeds go, labs are great with kids so are golden retrievers, but of course, that is a larger dog than what you are looking for. I've known many people who praise cocker spaniels because they are great family dogs. I hope this helps!

A puppy is hard to take on with a one year old. Did you ever think of a rescue dog? www.petfinder.com I think they are not supposed to charge. It is just families trying to find a place for their own pet. ie... moving, or allergies.
We had a beagle for 5 months and couldn't handle the craziness. Kids are 9,9,6, and 3. too much chaos!!!!

The Human Society is having an adoption program at the Detroit Zoo this weekend. They will have many of the animals there and the staff is well trained to answer your questions regarding compatabilty with children. Plus, the costs there are very low.

I am not sure that small dogs are good with kids. I think they may be a little more "high strung" and jumpy. We have a 70lb. shepherd/terrier/chow/not sure what else mix and she has always been great with our son. He climbs all over her and she is fine with it! Big dogs are also a little more "durable".
humane society is always a great place to go.. if your looking for a purebred im not sure getting a small dog with a small child is a very good idea.. if your going to a breeder its not going to be easy to find something low cost .. i have a yellow lab that i absolutley love so i obviously have to recommend a lab ... i will tell you though, my dog was a little bit nuts for the first 2 years we had him as most puppies are.. theyre like kids its gna take them a while to grow up.. if your daughter is very young maybe a puppy isnt the best idea mayb your better off with a dog thats just out of the puppy stage 1.5-2yrs old
