Hey moms anyone out there ever done any studies in Psychology? I have to do an experiment that relates to social psychology (making a hypothesis and doing experiments to prove it) any suggestions??? I was thinking "what determines help:do men or women help more and do they help men or women more?" Any suggestions as to different experiments to prove this? I appreciate any responses! Thank you!

What can I do next?

Try one on which adults are more likely to be more stable. Those that come from two parent homes or single parent homes. There is also the importance of extended family or close friends that maybe an important part of a childs self esteem, goals, work ethics and parenting skills.

I would try something in a very public place, like a mall or grocery store. Wait until someone comes close to you, then drop your child's bottle/sippy cup/favorite toy or whatever. If that person stops you to give it back, consider it help. If you had to go back and get it yourself, no help. Track if men or women were more likely to help you. If you can get your husband to go with you, you could each take turns. One of you does this alone then the other to see who responds better to who...

Just a thought.

Tons... but you'll have to write me at my email address:

and we can talk more about it.

What a great topic! LOL :)

BTW I think men and women can potentially do the same types of things
equally, but most men have learned "instincts", while women have the benefit of
learned, as well as maternial instincts. :)

L.,

You are speakin' my language. Where are you going to school? I am studying psychology and have a vested interest in social psychology!

First, are you actually doing the experiment or do you just have to design it? That makes a big difference as to what you do. How long do you have to do it?

Does it have to be original? Or can you replicate what someone else has already done?

There was a study done (I can't remember who did it or when) but they had participants come in to do a survey, at the end of the survey, when they were leaving, they had a confederate drop some papers and they kept track of who helped in picking them up.

My favorite social psych experiments are the ones looking at stereotypes, but that's just me ;)
