I developed severe eczema while I was pregnant in 1995. Nothing worked. I tried everything including what doctors recommended. My doctor finally gave me Melaleuca lotion and now I use that. No you are not doomed unless you become a lable reader. Becareful what products you are using. It is most likely you are having an allergic reaction from the detergence and lotions and soaps.

Might sound crazy, but cod liver oil. Fix your body from the inside first. Get to the root of the problem. I have friends who don't have any outbreaks when they take high quality, high vitamin CLO. CLO from natural vitamin A, not synthetic. Anyway, I encourage you to do your own research and good luck finding a solution.

My middle daughter has eczema and we found that Aquaphor works wonders (especially when applied at night before bed). Another tip is to not shower but every other day if you can. Believe it or not, you dry out your skin more when you shower more often. Also, be sure that you are using a perfume free soap/lotion such as Cetaphil. Once we transferred over, she barely has any trouble at all.

Can I first just say having kids does strange things to your body. lol After I had my first daughter I strangely enough became allergic to walnuts/pecans.
Well I have had eczema my whole life, and it is hereditary. My daughters will get it from time to time and I got it from my mom. I don't have it all the time or in the same place. When I do have it, if its small and not severe I will just buy a tube of hydrocortisone at the store. If that does not clear it up and it becomes worse I do have a prescription for it. There are different types of cream that are prescriped. I try to stay away from the prescriptions with steriods in it, as it will make your skin thin and very sensitive to touch. However, the ones with steriods are the only ones that help when I have severe cases. I hope this helps, if you have any more questions please feel free to contact me :)

What a bummer. I have psoriasis and I know what a pain it is. I also know that there is a type of psoriasis that pregnant women get and usually it will go away after a few months. You should check with your doctor to find out what kind it is. I use a medication called dermazinc, it is fantastic.

Try tea tree oil. It works really well and you can purchase it at most stores that have a health food department. It is a little pricey but only takes a couple drops on a patcth. My daughters ped had us use this and she had horrible excema.

I developed psoriasis while pregnant with my 2nd child back in '95. It just started cropping up as small little red scaly patched, but eventually turned into much bigger patches. Let me ask this...did you have frequent throat infections as a child? Strep throat or anything? I saw a world renowned dermatologist for this problem and he found out my immune system was shot from too many strep throat infections. I eventually had my tonsils removed and this helped somewhat. It is manageable now because after a while it got kind of out of control. I would see a dermatologist about it for sure to make sure, but sometimes pregnancy can trigger weird things in our immune systems that might be laying dormant.

Me and my four kids have eczema, it's something you had that may have never flared up as a child, but circumstances like your pregnancy made it flare. My 2nd daughter who has it the worse was prescribed elidel, but you must get that through a dermatologist. Another option is all natural products. I use arbonne products. It is a company I work for that has products for everyone in the family, the products have no dye's, chemicals, fragrances etc. It's a swiss born company. It has worked wonders in fact my daughter used to have flare ups and then I'd use the elidel which would help, but would eventually flare up again. When we uses the washes and lotions & oils from arbonne we don't see flare ups! i've had eczema my whole life. my mother would give me baths with baby oil, from experience this does not work. it took me years to find things that did work.
first drink beyond your daily average of water. hydration is a huge part in not letting your skin get to the patchy/rashy point.
second, i've found that washing/wet hands is a huge part of cause. i worked as a teacher's assistant and was constantly at the sink. i'd come home and wash dishes, etc. my hands were in so much pain. so i used rubber gloves every time i was at the sink and had my husband do dishes at much as possilbe...this helped a lot along with not using really hot water.
third, if it does get to the point of rash...use sesame oil. it doesn't sting and immediately relieves itching...if you don't have sesame oil, olive oil will do the trick. it's hard to use during the day because your hands are oiled and slick, however during the night, when chores are finished, lube up with a lot of oil and you can cover your hands with socks.

Skin Milk Cream- works wonders! Walmart carries it and some grocery stores!! Not greasy, you don't have to sell the family pet to get it, and it works!! My daughter had eczema on her cheeks, it would clear up in 3 to 5 days.

A lot of people are dramatically and negatively affected by the chemicals (mineral oils, parabens, propylene glycol, etc)in regular body care products that are supposed to help the skin.

Eczema and psoriasis are actually very different. Eczema is more common and often caused by external factors such as laundry detergent or personal care product use. There is a cream called Pinetarsal (tar based, so warning about the smell!) This is really good for psoriasis, but it would be best to get checked out by your doctor to determine what it is to work on the best course of action.

My husband and 4yo both have eczema, sometimes psoriasis for hubby, so I use things like liquid soaps (Dettol antiseptic wash) and sensitive washing powder.

If it is eczema there is a cool cream that they sell over the counter at most drug stores or pharmacy's called serna. It is on a white bottle with blue diaganol writting. I highly recommened this for any type of rash that you are un sure about once it is on you will forget about it.

The purest & most effective product I've run across is at Desert Sage Herbs in Chandler. They carry "super salve" and it is great. It works on everything and has only ingredients that are herbal.

No, you are not doomed for the rest of your life. If you are willing to make some lifestyle changes, which probably will mean changing your diet. Generally skin conditions are symptoms of an overloaded, toxic liver, which in this day of polluted water, air and ground, is relatively common. I've had amazing results with vitamin E oil for eczema. My daughter developed it due to an allergy to milk. The Dr. prescribed a topical steroid cream that began creating spots on her skin that wouldn't tan! I stopped using the cream immediately and switched to vitamin E. I put the oil directly on the eczema patches and then put oil directly in her bath water every 3 days or so (be careful- it will make the tub slippery! Regular dish soap will wash away the oily residue) I developed a rash on my arms and thighs while pregnant with my third daughter- so I'd say it's possible the pregnancy could have something to do with it. Hormones are crazy things! Also, see if it gets worse after eating certain things-milk, eggs, peanuts, wheat etc. Eczema is often associated with food allergies. Good luck!

I have eczema(so does my brother and my oldest daughter) I develop red dry patches on my skin. On my arms mostly but my brother and daughter get them everywhere. I have lotion in the shower and put lotion once I get done. They don't really itch but are annoying. Sound kind of like you? You need to go to the doc and get a medicated lotion because none of the over the counter stuff works. And you need to keep putting it on or else it will not get better.

A., yours sounds like eczema. I had psoriasis for 23 years, pretty severe. Had UV treatments as a teen, had my tonsils out. Lots of creams and goop. It only went away WHEN I was pregnant, and that's not a long term solution! After some research I started drinking aloe juice. 1-2 ounces per day, and now for the first time in my life, besides pregnancy, I am 90% clear. You can get it in a gallon jug at any health or herb store. I like the PharmAloe, mix it will a little juice. This condition can be a challenge. Some of the time we are lacking in natural production of good fat cells that help keep our skin soft and well protected. Just something you may look into is natural Omega fish oil that helps our bodies in so many ways it is impossble to list here. My 6 yr. old daughter has a large patch of eczema on her back and some on one foot. The doctor gave us steroid cream and allergy medicine. But, she kept having flair ups. It itched so much she'd scratch till it bled. My stepmom had suggested aloe vera gel (we have a large patch of it growing in the backyard, but you can also buy it in a jar at health food stores - look for 100% pure)to fend off infection to the open areas. To my surprise it not only helped the scratched areas heal quickly, but it also helped to keep the flair ups under control. When I use the live plant, I cut off one "leaf" - scrape off the small 'spines' on the sides, cut a chunk off, split it open and rub it on the eczema. It soothes her itch and doesn't sting like the steroid. We think her eczema may be due to a food allergy, so now we've started testing - she's had a blood test that indicated low levels of reaction to a few foods. So, we'll eliminate those foods for a couple of weeks and see if the rashiness clears up, then we'll slowly add the foods back, one at a time for a few days each, and watch for any flair ups. We've already changed all soaps and laundry detergents to unscented, all natural, as much as possible since I am allergic to fragrances and harsh additives. Hopefully the eczema is related to a food allergy, then we can "cure" it by eliminating it from her diet. If not, the doctor said we'll just have to wait and see if she outgrows it.

Use aquafor it works great. If it starts to turn red then use cortaid and that will help with the red!

I read recently that they think there's a link between Omega-3 difficiency & skin issues (eczema, etc.). I just started taking a supplement, but my friend has noticed a difference with her 4 yr old's eczema after eating more fish. Worth a try. Oh & adding to another post - I've seen the Aloe juice at Costco - with the vitamins & such.

It is eczema, or just dry skin. Use only detergent with no added perfumes or dyes, usually called 'free'. Use very gentle soap such as dove unscented. Use hypoallergenic perfume free lotion only, very hard to find, I get it behind the counter at target. If you get time and money, you can visit a dermatologist who can help.

Find a Mary Kay consultant near you and ask for Extra Emollient Night Cream. It is the most amazing stuff! It works great on yucky dry elbows and heels too.

Hi,no your not doomed , well forever anyway.. jk I have eczema flair ups on my hands and I use a variety of lotions. I manily use avon lotion moisture therapy, vita moist also avon lotion. Sometimes a change in your hormones can cause this or stress. I have the same thing on my hands. Not all over but just in patches. It drives me crazy. But I found something about a year ago that works. If you can believe it, It is the walmart brand of vaseline with vitamin e and aloe. It is called Equate vitamin E and aloe petroleum jelly. You find it in the lotion isle, usually close to the bottom shelf. It is greasy, but it works. I was so surprised. And its cheap. I tried everything, before nothing helped until this. I put it on and then I put some socks on my hands for just a little bit until it absorbs into my skin. Well I hope this helps. It did me. Good Luck!
