Hi Mamas, I went to the dr today and told him that I havent started my period since having my implanon taken out 9 weeks ago tomorrow. Well he gave me a prescription of glucophage and provera to take for 3 months to see if that will imrove my chances. Has anyone ever take one or both of these drugs and if so did you get preganant and how soon afterwards did it happen? He also did labs to check my hormone levels, thyroid, and ovaries. He said that if this doesnt work then he will put me on clomid or some other form of ovulation med to help me. Thanks
Edit: I do not have diabetes but my ob/gyn said it's possible I have PCOS so that's why he gave me the glucophage. I really hope these meds help so that I don't have to take clomid since there's a risk of having multiples with it. I am a twin an my brother and sister are twins so I'm already at risk for multiples!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Well I got my Labs back from the dr and I have been told I have pcos! He said if I don't get pregnant within the next 3 months he will put me on clomid. I don't think I'm wanting to go that far but I am not gonna make up my mind just yet. What side effects did y'all have and did your baby have any side effects from it?

Do you have PCOS or diabetes that the Glucophage (metformin is the generic) was prescribed?

Based upon the information I found on Drugs.com (http://www.drugs.com/cdi/provera.html), I'd recommend talking to a pharmacist to see what information they can find on using these drugs when trying to conceive. Provera, it appears, is not FDA approved during pregnancy and can be dangerous to the unborn child.

Metformin, on the other hand, is pregnancy category B (means the FDA does not believe the risk is greater than the benefit and doesn't believe there is harm to the fetus).

Also, what kind of doctor recommended this? OB/GYN or primary care? A physician's medical license allows them to prescribe products even for uses not approved by the FDA if there is a valid medical reason, but you may want to arm yourself with as much information as possible. Instead of the internet, I'd highly recommend asking your pharmacist to do a little digging for you.

My other favorite medical sites for information on medications are:
mayoclinic.com
www.fda.fov
www.drugs.com

I just read an article on the internet about using Glucophage(Metform) for PCOS. I use it for diabetes and didn't realize it had other uses. Metformin works differently than other diabetic meds. It is highly unlikely that you would ever get low blood sugar with this med. One less thing for you to worry about. Good luck with your pregnancy plans!

I took Provera to get my period to start; the doctor of course first checked to make sure I was not already pregnant and when I wasn't he gave me Provera which you take to help start your period and a new ovulatory cycle. As you know glucophage is typically for insulin resistance and related issues. I also did take Clomid eventually and did get pregnant.

I had to take provera to have a period when we were ttc. Then I was put on Clomid and then a clomid/metformin combo. The only thing I remember about the provera was that it helped me have a period like instantly after completing the cycle of that for the month. I have PCOS so the others helped me actually ovulate and get pregnant. I had to take all three the month it all finally worked. It does help get your period started. Or at least it should. For some people that's all they need to get things moving. Good luck with it all! I don't remember any excessive moodiness or anything like that.
