I would call the ped. but I can't see how it could be bad. Go for it mama!
Start back in slow with the exercise, see if there is a Stroller Strides near you for a chance to exercise with you baby and other new moms!!
I am nursing my 6 week old and am starting to exercise and wanted to know if maybe once a day or every other day I can incorporate a protein shake. I will make my own using 100% Whey maybe a teaspoon or two, with fruit and milk etc. I called my OB and they werent certain but thought it would be fine. I didnt know if anyone else has experience with this?? Thank you girls!

a friend of mine is taking herbalife shake with protein without any problems, she will not tke anothr one because herbalife shake is approved by her doctor .
Your baby might have trouble digesting whey...a milk protein.
I always did. I never even thought to ask about it actually. I drank protein shakes when I was pregnant too.
I wonder why you feel you need extra protein? Are you doing some competition bodybuilding or just regular exercise? Did you know that most of Americans eat 3 times the amount of protein they need? Consuming too much protein (especially animal protein) forces your body to take calcium stored in the body in order to metabolize the added protein, this then overworks your organs. A better protein source would be hemp seeds in the smoothie. If you're worried about nutrients try dark red beans, lots of green leafy veggies and hearty grains.
Wonderful that you're nursing and want to be in shape!
Your ob won't know because they don't do nutritional training in medical school, in fact there is only a 4 hour class given as an elective!!!!
A wonderful book you should check out: http://www.veganbodybuildingbook.com/
If anything it will be BETTER for the baby.
Yes, go for it, as long as you're not smoking and drinking,
When I was nursing my doctor told me I could have anything I wanted to eat or drink if it didn't upset the babies stomach. But he also cautioned me that things like drugs, alcohol, vitamins all can go into the babies blood stream. I honestly think I would hold off on the protein shakes as it could put to much protein into your babies system. Haven't you heard about the animals being injected with protein so that the babies grow faster? They give the Moma's the protein and the babies get it through the milk. I would wait until I was done nursing if it were me.
I had to add a protein shake when I was nursing because I wasn't getting enough calories/protein. It definitely helped me feel better. My lactation consultant at the time recommended a premade protein shake or the matching powder that is sold at Sam's...I think it was myoplex or muscle milk. I personally wanted something that was 'cleaner'--having no artificial sweeteners. Because my daughter had issues with dairy, I definitely did not use whey. I even skipped the soy protein because I wasn't sure if it would bother her or not. I ended up using an Egg White protein (Jay Robb brand at whole foods). It was definitely pricier--I guess you need a lot of eggs to get enough protein in one scoop! :-) But it worked perfectly. I used unsweetened, plain soy milk with it--so I did use some soy, just didn't want to go all soy. If your baby is fine with dairy (which could change as her digestive system develops/matures), then the whey may be fine, but take it slow.
Bottom line is that you should go for the 'cleanest' protein you can find...stay away from meal shake type things unless you want all of the added vitamins and other things. If you use the plain protein, then you can add the other things in your smoothie like you mentioned already. Good luck! breastfeeding takes a LOT of calories. It's important to keep up your nutrient intake.
I would call a lactation consultant, just to be safe, and/or the ped.
I don't understand why it would be a problem. But, yeah, call La Leche League or another lactation consultant to be sure. You could eat walnuts (a good source of omegas), almonds, or add some peanut butter to milk and fruit for a good protein shake.
