Pros and Cons of Mixing Vaccinated and Non-Vaccinated Children

I work as a professional nanny, and am interviewing with several families to find my next perfect match. Recently I have encountered a family that has made the choice not to vaccinate their child. I completely respect this. I bring my daughter, almost two, to work with me. She is vaccinated.

I know this topic is quite contraversial, so my question is, what should my concerns be about caring for a non-vaccinated child?

I don't need responses telling me not to vaccinate, as I have already questioned this, and have made the decision to do so.

Thank you!!!!!

Hi,
Really, it is the non-vaccinated child that is at risk for a variety of illnesses. For your own health, I would check with your Doc on any updating of vaccines that would be helpful in protecting you from anything the non-vaccinated child may come down with.

I would call your childs doctor to double check, but my understanding is that the non-vaccinated child is the one at risk, not your child. I run a daycare and so far have not come across anyone choosing not to vaccinate, but when we get our license we are told we can NOT decide not to take a child just because they choose not to vaccinate so it must not put your child at risk. If it did then they wouldn't be able to make you subject your child to that environment.
Good Luck.

I'm interested in the responses because one of my daughter's friends that she plays with occasionally (not school friend) is not vaccinated. Mine are vaccinated, but it's becoming a big issue and more and more kids are not vaccinated, what are the risks and what are the pros and cons? How do you get them registered for school if they're not? Mine actually had to have one extra test (TB skin) for school entry and she's never been in a situation where she's been exposed!

The concern would be that anyone can be a carrier of an illness like whooping cough, etc and not have the symptoms. If the nonvaccinated child comes in contact with a child or adult who carriers the virus they might become sick and spread the virous to others. Non-vaccinated children are at risk for picking up viruses that are latent in other people. I recommend you talk to a pediatrician and do some research. good luck
