I have to do a project in Psychology class on Bulemia. I have to be creative, write a paper, give an oral presentation and bring something "unique" to the class. Can someone help me out with ideas please? Thanks so much!

What can I do next?

I would suggest some props. Laxatives, colon cleansers, syrup of Ipecac (induces vomiting). Also, the result of bulemia: a picture showing the destruction of the teeth from repeated vomiting, pitctures of an eroded esophagus, a stressed out heart.

K., my research in grad school was mostly on childhood obesity. One idea I have for you is to focus on children wiht bulemia. It is becoming more popular with younger and younger poeple. OR you could focus on males, which is also a good subcategory, and you could find some great journal articles on that topic.

My sister has a form of bulemia in which she eats, chews, and spits the food into bottles/bags and hides them all over the house. Perhaps that's a unique version of the disease to investigate. She would NEVER talk about it because she refuses to admit it.

I also have a neighbor who has bulemia and is really concerned about how not to impact her daughter with the same insecurities she has about her own body. Perhaps you can look at that aspect as well - how to prevent your children from developing a condition you, yourself, can not overcome.

K.,

I wonder if you screened some of the local HS schools if you might get some anonymys (sp?) input... put a local spin on your report. I know people are going to be reluctant to participate, but IF you were able to get a few to talk to you it would be highly valuable.

Talk to Doctors about the effects on the body, and talk to a Dentist about the effects on the mouth. Especially a bone doctor, gasterinternologist, ... etc.

You can also talk/show the ritual of bulemia. Some decorate the bowls they throw up into and only that bowl. Or, a multimedia presentation that flashes super thin models on the screen. Or, the mirror distortion of what is seen versus the way they really look like. Or, being a mom, talk about the propensity for women who thought they had a handle on this in youth begin again following birth of a child. I think Bulemia is fascinating.

You would find some great quotes to use in Cynthia Rowland McClure's "The Monster Within." She also has definition-type information in the back, and I think some resources as well. The most interesting presentation, I think, would be case studies. Remuda Ranch could be a good resource. God bless you with this. There may be someone or more than one suffering in your audience...give them hope. There's much hope!
