Progressive Insurance

Has anyone actually saved money with Progressive? We are shopping around for homeowners insurance; seeing if we can save some money and Progressive was about double what the other companies were quoting. I remember getting a car insurance quote from them a few years ago and their quote was sky high compared to others. My parents recently got a quote from them and it was much higher than the other companies. Same with my in-laws. My husband is happy that we won't be going with Progressive because he absolutely HATES Flo and her "big, dumb red lips."

What can I do next?

Just say no even if they are cheaper. I had them years ago and they sucked. You truly never know how good your insurance is until you have to file a claim. I was rear-ended at a red light. Obviously the other guy was at fault. I called my insurance company and reported it. They took a statement and came out and assessed the damage to my car. The other guy had State Farm and covered my rental car etc.... Do you know who had to do all of the coordination with State Farm? ME!!!!! Progressive took care of NOTHING. Seriously, I have no idea what I was paying money for....I dropped them the next time I had to renew my policy.

I'm an insurance agent in AZ. I have had a lot of quotes come back as Progressive being the lowest. HOWEVER, they are considered a "standard" company, meaning they take the high risk drivers, so many other companies, like MetLife, will NOT take you as a policyholder if your current insurance is thru Progressive. I do have a client who had their jeep stolen and Progressive paid them 8k on a 14 yo jeep that they paid 10k for ten years ago, so they were very happy with them. My suggestion is to go thru an independent agent such as myself and you can get many quotes and then go from there. But you know the saying, you get what you pay for, and insurance isn't something you want to skip on. Good luck.

The first year yes. Then they raised the rates AND we had to hire a lawyer for nearly $7,000 to make them paid what they owed. I hate that company.

They had high rates for me, and I work in medical billing, they are enemy #2 in my book when it comes to dealing with claims! :(

Geico and state farm are my favorites, and state farm was cheapest for us.

Added: I just realized that you are specifically asking about homeowners for yourself - sorry about that. But I have to say that if a company treats people less than stellar with a car accident, they will do it too, with a problem with your home.

Original:
I can't stand Flo with her big ole hair and red lips either!! More than the part about saving money with them, DO research whether they take care of you in an accident. I've seen some people on this site who work in insurance (match up people with different companies) who say that Progressive is not a good company to work with. I also am thinking about the ad with the guy who is always banging up cars (Mr. Mayhem, I think he calls himself) who says if you are with an insurance company where you name your own rates (am I remembering this right?) that you could be paying for the damage yourself. I kind of think that maybe he is talking about Progressive, but I'm not sure.

We have been hit by people with jack-leg insurance, and dealing with that is NO fun. My company stood by me, told me my rights, waded right in there and didn't let the other insurance take us for a ride. I'll pay extra for that any day. No jack-leg insurance for me!

I have had Progressive for years. Every renewal my payment goes down. I've never had any accidents.. (knock on wood) ... but my experience with them has been good, and they are affordable - I pay around 63$ per month. Oh PS, I'm talking about car insurance :) I don't have them for homeowners.

I actually love progressive. Car insurance, and claims have been great. We switched to them for homeowners about 3 years ago, and this year they raised the homeowners too much for our comfort. We'll be shopping on the homeowners - but I really like them on the car side.
