So I found out I am pregnant yesterday with what I'm hoping will be baby number two. However I miscarried in November so I am cautious and trying not to be excited, at least for a while. My question is that my doctor wants me to take progesterone suppositories called Prochieve 8%, 90mg progesterone. It wouldn't be a problem and I want to take them but we have no prescription coverage and they are really expensive like $220 for maybe 18 I think. I was wondering if anyone has taken this kind where they get them filled and how much they cost, or the names of other suppositories I can bring up to my doctor.....

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Well after everyones suggestions I talked to the nurse in the office and told her there was no way I could afford Prochieve at $241 for 18 doses so she called a compounding pharmacy in Troy and they are supplying me with the porgesterone suppositories for $39 for a whole month! Let's just hope it helps.....

C., I'd try without it. You know how many people miscarry? It happens so often because now they can tell so early that a person is pregnant. In the past, people probably miscarried without even knowing they were pregnant. There was probably just something wrong with the baby. It was nature that led you to miscarry. If you've only had one miscarriage, and you had a baby successfully, I'd do without and let nature take it's course. If it's meant to be, it will be. Doctors get kick backs from these drug companies. It's in their best interest to get you on the drugs. I'd find another doctor if I were you, someone who has your best interest in mind, and your babies. Please give this pregnancy a chance without the hormones. Your body can do it. If it happens again, then think about help for your uterus.

I took prometrium oral pills .. they were expensive too.. Over 200 for 30 days..

Call pharmacies and talk to the pharmacist ask what other drugs are equivalent and cheaper..

Walmart or Costco are probably the cheapest on drugs.. you do not have to be a member of costco to get prescriptions filled..

Hi!! I was supposed to have those w/my 3rd pregnancy because I too had m/c last summer. We have prescription coverage though and for a 12 wk supply it was going to cost me 22.00 but....what pharmacy did you use? I had to go to a compounding pharmacy to pick mine up...do you have health insurance at all? Maybe medicaid could pick up just the prescription coverage....or maybe you could ask your dr to write out differently so that you could get a 1/3 of the prescription filled and just go back when u need the rest that way its not so much all at once...from what I hear its important to have so maybe you could talk to your dr and see if there are any othe options. The compounding pharmacy was in troy by the way! Feel free to msg me w/any more questions! You are in my prayers, I know what you're going through...

I used Crinone suppositories. I know they were expensive but I'm not sure HOW expensive. Luckily my insurance covered them at the time.

You usually only have to use them for the first 12 weeks or so. At least if you have to pay out-of-pocket, it will be temporary. But $220 for 18 is really expensive!

C.,

Did you ask your doctor for samples? They may want you on these for the first trimester, so I would pursue that with your doctor - if they don't have them maybe they can ask for some from the drug reps.

Talk to your doctor about alternatives that may be cheaper, but just as effective. Also ask if he/she has any samples or could they get you some? Good doctors try to help their patients with these type of issues. It doesn't hurt to ask. Good luck and God Bless You.

I use a transdermal pro gest cream by Emerita. Talk to your doc about it and see if he/she can suggest something else that's not going to blow your budget. Doc's suggest medication from the co.'s that basically lobby there office to sell there products.
Good luck, A. H
