Hi~
What kind of processing disorder? Auditory? Sensory? Visual? The type of disorder will determine who you see.
For example:
Sensory processing = pediatric occupational therapist
Central auditory processing disorder (needs to by 8 yrs old to diagnose): 1st see pediatric audiologist then see pediatric speech pathologist
Visual Perceptual processing = pediatric occupational therapist and pediatric developmental optometrist

let me know if you have questions.

Early Intervention for a child under 3. You can try the school for a school age child but you may do better finding a specialist on your own. I'd start with a developmental pediatrician. Check with a university or children's hospital in you area. Maybe the IUPUI medical school has some kind of program. I no longer live in Indianna but I graduated from IU Bloomington with an MSin counseling about 12 years ago. Several of the professors also have small private practices so you might find someone who is a child development expert that way. Good luck.

How old is your son?
Every state has something called Early Intervention that covers kids up to age 3, they test for PT, OT, speech and developmental things

If you qualify it is free.

If he is older, I would ask your pediatrician for a referral. Even if they dont agree with you push for one

Depending on age and what you suspect is effected, you could start with a Developmental Pediatrician if very young and you think his situation is complicated, and an Neuropsychologist if he is school aged and you suspect learning differences.

You are entitleded to a public evaluation, but you don't want to depend on it, and you don't want to depend on public services to provide everything he needs. Early Intervention is avilable befrore age 3, and your local school district is who you see from 3 on. These agencies are only required to make your child functional, and you want more than that.

If you suspect that your child will carry a diagnosis, you want to own the evaluation that carriies that diagnosis.
