Problems with Pregnacy Still

Sometimes it take as long as 4-6 weeks for your hcg numbers to return to <5 (essentially negative result) after a miscarriage. A D & C would not necessarily change this slow return to "negative" and it has risks for complicating future pregnancy and for causing infection in your uterus. Please be patient and repeat the hcg as directed by your Dr. If the numbers rise, you will be evaluated for gestational trophoblastic disease which is a rare type of tumor that is basically abnormal cell growth in your uterus during a pregnancy. It's important that you avoid pregnancy while you wait for your numbers to return to near zero. I'm so sorry for your loss and for the stress this is causing you. Nurse Midwife Mom

I am really sorry you are going through this.
Honestly, I think it is time to seek a 2nd opinion.
I have never heard of a Dr. willing to just wait and see when it comes to a D&C. They usually give you X amount of time as a deadline.
If your HCG # is 14 or 16 I would have to imagine the baby is gone, the number should be in the hundreds and doubling every day or so.

It took my body 11 long days to expel my baby. I don't think 2 weeks is too far out of the normal range. But if your Dr. is not listening to you, it is time to find a new one. ASAP.

I am sorry for your loss. I myself just went thru a miscarriage a few months ago. If you miscarried early in your pregnancy, there would not be much pregnancy tissue in you uterus to expell. That may be the reason the Dr. wants you to pass it naturally without having a D&C. Your body will eventually realize you are not pregnant anymore and expell what is left of the pregnancy. I miscarried at 9 weeks but the baby stopped developing at 6. I chose to have a natural miscarriage and it took me almost two months to go thru the whole process. As long as you are not having complications and you were not far in your pregnancy, there really is no need to have a D&C. Emotionally if this is bothering you then I would suggest letting your Dr. know that you want a D&C and if he refuses, I would seek out another Dr. This is an emotional time for you and you should not have to deal with a Dr. that is not going to abide by your wishes.

Like everyone I'm so sorry. when I mc'd 4 years ago it was w/twins so the decision was made for me to have the d&c the day after the ultrasound found no hb. They figured it would be too hard on my body to pass twins natually. It was emotionally draining just that let alone having to wait & knowing it's over. I think I might give it another week then seek another dr. just remember that although u may be devastated everything happens for a reason. If I hadn't lost the twins I wouldn't have my beautiful 3 year old daughter. Best wishes. This too shall pass.

I m/c'd twice a few years ago. D&C's have risk, and many doctors would rather not do one until medically needed. Are you still pregnant, no, your hcg should double at least every 72 hours in the early part of pregnancy, so it really is just a waiting game on your body to do what it needs to do.

If it is something you really want taken care of, find another doctor, and see if they will do a D&C simply so you can move on. that is your right and it is perfectly understandable if that is how you feel. However, your current doctor is not acting out of the ordinary.
