Do you have health insurance? You have to tell somebody about it, you will not get better unless you have support from your family or friends. I have a niece that has recovered from the same eating disorder that you describe, it is called bulimia. The Institute for Living in Hartford has a very good program. You can call them and talk to someone in the eating disorder clinic. They will refer you to a program. If you cannot afford their program they should beable to refer you to another. There are many out patient programs as well as inpatient programs. You can also dial 211 it is the CT resource line, it is anonymous, anyone can call and ask for referrals or information such as what you are asking and they will refer you to the appropriate resource. You cannot do this alone, this is a very serious disorder that can be life threatening. I know you want to get better and that is the first step but, you need professional help to stop this. Do not feel ashamed, you are asking for help that takes a strong person. Stay strong and please make the call to the above places. I will be thinking about you, e-mail me and let me know how you are doing and if you were able to find help.

You are to be commended for reaching out for help! You can't fight this on your own - please understand that it is a medical condition and it deserves/requires treatment. You do not need to be ashamed. There are so many people, especially but not only women, who have some form of an eating disorder. You're already taken a huge step by identifying the problem and its components. Your first step is to speak with your doctor, either your primary care physician or your gynecologist, whomever you are closest to. That doctor can refer you to an appropriate specialist and/or program and it should be covered by your medical insurance. If you don't have private insurance, you will surely qualify for a public program through your state. Your physician can help you with this. You may be referred to a step program such as Overeaters Anonymous as someone else mentioned, but this is not something that will work on its own for most people. It needs to be part of a more aggressive and directed program. This is a legitimate health issue and you need to approach it as such. While you may benefit from counseling, you need a full physical work-up first to check for chemical and hormonal imbalances, plus any physical effects of the purging. Don't decide now that you can't afford this - see what is recommended first and understand that it is a covered condition, both for medical and psychological services. See if you can find ONE trusted friend or relative to go with you to appointments to give you strength. You will be surprised that pretty much EVERYONE knows someone who has been affected in some way by an eating disorder, and you are not alone!

Well you're definitely NOT alone. I have had the same issues since I was 12 years old. The group called 'OA' or Overeater's Anonymous, is not just for overeaters. It is also for other eating disorder types. If you look it up on the internet you can search for a meeting near you and even call with questions. It is free and they use the 12 steps like AA or NA...and all of the other 12 step programs. You should check it out and see how it works for you. You will get tools and support there. Best of luck...i hope this helps. Hugs.
