Private Schools or Montessori's in Fort Worth (West) Area

Our school district is pretty solid, but I'm wondering if it will be able to offer enough of an academic challenge for my son. He just barely missed the gifted & talented placement in kindergarten and his academics are really solid. He's just in first grade, but I'm wondering if he's getting bored as his behavior in class isn't great - not bad stuff, but it seems like he's not staying engaged.

Does anyone have any ideas or recommendations? I can't homeschool, because I'm the main breadwinner while husband is in medical school.

Thanks!

What can I do next?

If I had the money and there was a Waldorf school in my area that would perfect. If not, the next best thing is a Montessori school.

If his behavior isn't great there is a reason and probably has to do with the teacher and maybe too much emphasis on academics. Often what happens in children who naturally take academics so quickly and easily so early later become burned out and numbed to learning any more of it. Balance is key. He's just started. Think of the meaning of what he is learning and how he's learning it. To get to a child's mind you must go through the heart.

You just described most of the boys in my son's first grade class. They have trouble paying attention and get distracted easily. Several of them are very silly/goofy and enjoy the attention they get from their classmates. They really tend to feed off each other.

Have you mentioned your concerns to his teacher? She (or he) might be able to tell you hoe much of it is age appropriate, and therefor something she is working on or if it's a problem that needs addressing.

he sounds like a very normal wiggly bright boy, but yeah, montessori or waldorf would probably be a lot more interesting for him.
sorry i'm not familiar with your area, but glad you're looking into this for him.
