Ok, so short notice, but my Mom's birthday is next week. I can't think of anything! We are so close, best friends, and I just can't think of anything. She is one of those people who has everything she wants. She is not cluttery and hates niknaks. She wants a new bike and my Dad is getting her one and I could go in on that, but I wanted something different I guess. She already has a photo book of the grandkids and DVDs of our childhood pics and videos. Come on ladies, give it your best shot! Thanks so much!!

Tori, It would be a great idea to make a certificate for lunch/movie/shopping just the 2 of us! She would love that!

So What Happened?

Great ideas ladies, thanks so much! I made her a certificate for a a day of fun with me (no kids or hubby!). I am also going to send a small bouquet to her work. I love the idea about writing stories, I think I'll do that for their anniversary (40th this year)!

How about a "mother daughter" peice of jewlery for her to wear. A pendant, bracelet, ring something you would both wear and think of the other when you/she wears it.
here are some cool decently priced peices ...I really like the two cirlces pendant

this one is a little pricey but beautiful

I love jewlery it never gets old as a gift especially for a mother. Mine makes it easy she loves boxes the ornate kinds.

Does she have a Mother's Ring? Or perhaps something the two of you can enjoy together like a day at the spa for some pampering. Maybe a class (cooking, painting, pottery, dance) the two of you could take together.

I feel you. This is how it is with my mom too. I feel like b/c we're so close any thing I get her is just somehow not good enough to show my feelings. I would do something just the two of you. Go to a show or a ladies lunch with pedicures or shopping or to a spa or wine tasting...whatever she likes. That way you can just hang out together and have fun. If you really want to get her something tangible, maybe get her a fancy bike helmet or an accessory to the bike.

Buy her a horn for her bike. Just Kidding. Had to put that in there.
Massage or spa ? Do you have the Melting Pot there ? A Mother's Ring ?
Concert tickets for someone that is coming in the next 6 months ? A Bath and Body Basket ? New Bedding ? A new Decor for her small Bathroom with all the assessories? Movie tickets and dinner ?

What about some bike gear? Biking clothes (even something comfy, not necessarily serious biker stuff), odometer, maybe a helmet. A few years ago I got my MIL a basket with the following (all hand picked out): magazines, a book, 2 movies, bottle of wine, peaceful music CD. I wrapped it in cellophane & put a big bow on it. She loved it & thought it was so thoughtful. You can do this w/ anything she is interested in...cooking, reading, biking, wine, etc.

One really cool thing we did for our mom one year was to write letters where we reminished about all our cherished memories of her sacrifices, funny moments, encouragement, fun and funny, etc. In mind, I drew little pictures in the margins of something depicting what I was talking about. In today's world, you could drop in images or real pictures of same.

What a blessing. Don't wait until she's very, very old to do this because not all moms live to be very very old.

I sent my mom chocolate covered strawberries in the mail (kind of like a flower delivery). She loved them.

My mom has a best friend, I like to either give my mother a gift that they can both go and enjoy together or I take both of them to do something fun..

They helped me with a huge project earlier this month and next week I am going to take them to the Gold Crown Cinema..

In the past, I have taken them to the local Roller Derby.. Hilarius..
I took them to an art festival.
I have given them ticket so to local productions.
I gave them a gift card for mani - pedis and lunch together.

For my Stepfather, I give him gift cards so he and my mom can go somewhere together for a meal or entertainment. I try to make it a place he will enjoy, but out of their regular area of town..

Maybe some bike accessories--a bag for behind her seat or to go over the back tires, or a new helmet with one of those rear view mirror thingies, water bottle and holder, riding gloves, a safety light, a map of bike trails in your area, or a trail pass if there is a fee, etc.

Maybe a tag-a-long or bike trailer in case she would like to take your kids for a ride?

one of the things i gave my mom which she loved is the following

Get a journal and write some memories of things you have done with her. they don't have to be big exotic things just little random things that meant a lot. in the one for my mom i wrote about the first bedroom I had of my own and how she would come in to tuck me in at night and how safe it made me feel, I wrote about the birthday cake she made me for my 8th birthday. the only thing I wanted was a teired cake like a wedding cake. she made me what was basically a miniture wedding cake lol. i had a dancing party for my 10th birthday party and she danced with us to steppinwolf (she was the cool mom lol) memories that are so special to me that she had forgotten about. you can include photos of things if you have them. she will laugh and cry and it will be one of her very favorite gifts.

You could visit the bike store and get her a lock to lock it up if she decides to ride it to the grocery/whatever. They also sell glasses, both sunglasses and clear ones so that the wind doesn't get into your eyes. I got my daughter those glasses for Christmas, plus both tail light and headlight for her bike. She loved it!! Flowers are good also.
