I will be moving to the McKinney area this summer. I am looking for a Pre-K program that doesn't cost a lot. Also, my 4 year old was enrolled in speech services through our school district, is there a website that I could info from? Here in Jacksonville, we had an agency called the Early Learning Coalition.

Thanks

What can I do next?

My son did speech therapy with ECI before he was 3 and was tested to see if he needed to continue at the school. Call Collin County Special Education Co-Op at ###-###-#### and ask for the speech therapy dept. They will test him to see if he needs help. Good luck!

For Speech Therapy I can highly recommend Baylor - Our Childrens House. My daughter goes there for speech therapy as well as physical and occupational therapy and they are amazing! They have several offices throughout the metroplex. You can get the info through Baylor hospital's web site. We go to the plano location - but there are several. My daughter is 4 and loves her preshool - she goes to Little Saints - might be a drive for you if you are in McKinney, but it is excellent and not expensive.

Call the preschool evaluation team (PET Office ###-###-####) They will review his evaluation from Jacksonville to determine if they can accept it or if they need to do further evaluation. They conduct summer evaluations, so maybe you can see if they can fit you in this summer so he can start as soon as next school year starts. McKinney ISD's preschool program is very well established. They have the PALS program, who has received multipule distinction awards. They have five PALS classes that focus mainly on articulation delays. They also have close to ten PPCD classes which focus more on language delays along with articulation, if needed. Both of these programs are free if your child meets eligibility. They are opening the Lawson Preschool Center next year, where all preschool programs will be housed in one campus. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any questions.

We absolutely LOVE Crossing Point Christian School (at First Christian Church) in McKinney ###-###-####. Or, www.goodnewsfcc.org. They take kids ages 2 to Pre-K and have a wonderful before school or after school care if needed. It is a smaller program with a lot of specialized attention. We have been there for 3 years & there is not one thing more that I would ask for. The director is Debbie Dodson. Most importantly, they love Jesus & the kids while really teaching them. Welkcome to Texas!

Hey there! My son went to pre-k at Crossing Point Christian Church here in McKinney. I also at that time was looking for an inexpensive school. Two yrs ago it cost me 130 a month for two days a week. Not sure how much it would be now. I was told by his teacher that she has a hard time understanding him sometimes. She told me about a program through the school district called "PALS" He is now in Kindergarten and he is in his second year of PALS, and I have seen a huge improvement in his speech. It was free. Good Luck!

My child was in the McKinney ISD Preschool Early Education program for speach delay and it was amazing. They completely caught him up a year before kindergarten. I would contact the main office for McKinney ISD and they can get you in contact with the right person to set him up here. Bring all your paperwork frm Jacksonville.

Preschools: we attend Little Saints and love it. Someone else mentioned Crossing Point and I have heard good things about there too.

I LOVE my boys' preschool... and I did TONS of research. It's called Montesschool at Hillcrest (Dallas address but just blocks from Richardson). It's a montessori school for the price of daycare. The reason it's cheaper than most montessori schools is because it's no frills and privately owned/operated by a husband/wife team. My oldest will be 4 in May and already knows the planets, the continents, anatomy functions, and all kinds of stuff I don't even know! He writes his name and absolutely LOVES school. My youngest will be 3 in June, and he's not far behind his big brother. :) Good luck! Their # is ###-###-####.

C.,

Welcome to McKinney! My 4 year old did the PALS speech program thru McKinney ISD at Glen Oaks Elementary and within 1 semester her speech had greatly improved (we started just before Christmas at 3 years old) and by the next school year she had completely improved to her age level and they were able to transition her to one on one to finish the final sound and just recently dismissed from that because she had mastered that sound.

As for Preschool there are several great ones in McKinney. Prices vary but generally all have simiiar programs and guidelines. Here are a few of my favorites: Cottonwood Creek Kidcare, McKinney Fellowships Promiseland, Redeemer Presbyterian Day school & Crosspoint Clubhouse (I was the founding director of Clubhouse in 2001.) I have had a child at all of these. They are all on the West side of McKinney. My 18 month old will be attending Cottwood Creek Kidcare in the fall and I believe they still have some spots open. Generally they fill up in the spring so I would jump on seeing if you can get in somewhere or at least get on the waiting lists. If you know where you will be living let me know and I'd be glad to let you know the closest ones to you neighborhood. Cottonwood has the best rates. $100 registration for the Mom's day out and $145 a month. The 3 & 4 day programs are a little more. Here's their website: http://www.cottonwoodcreek.org/kidcare/home.htm

Please email me directly if you have questions about the area and schools. I have worked for in the private & publice sector in McKinney and as a realtor know a lot about the different neighborhoods around here.

Depending on where you actually settle will depend on what you can get. If you qualify for speech and live in Plano ISD they have 3 different campuses that are for Preschool and are awesome. I sell childrens books for Usborne Books and do a bookfair each year at one of them. They are great and reallyu care about their kids.

I also know McKinney is in the process of building their Preschool, and visited the Plano campuses to get ideas.

Cheers, Deb B.

Welcome to Plano/Mckinney. I have a 9 year old and a just turned 5 year old girl. My 5 year old girl is in Pre-k now. She was enrolled in PISD (plano school district)speech therapy program. PISD has very good low cost pre-k program. If your daughter qualified for this speech program, It will probably be free, no tuition. Here is a school webside, you can find the info. and contact them to learn more about it before decide where to settle down, Plano or Mckinney. The two citys are both good with good schools for family with kids to live.(I don't know MISD have this Pre-K program or not). Wish what you get from here will help.
