I am looking for ideas for my daughters preschool teachers. She is 3 and only goes 2 mornings a week. She has 2 teachers and sometimes an aid. Is it best to buy a group gift or individual. I am open to any suggestions!
Thanks!

My son is in daycare and two main teachers and a handful of others whom help out with one thing or another in the classroom at different times of the day.

Last year, we went to a local chocalate shop and picked something out for each of them ($2 or $3 for helpers, $6 or $7 for main teachers). My sone helped me make names tags for each.

This year, I saw a sale on dish towels at my local AC Moore. I picked up a bunch and some pot holders and am going to make Dish towel angels for each. If they like the angel and want to hang her... great! If not, everyone can use an extra holiday dish towel or two. :) A web search will pull up free instructions for making them... I have included one below.

I was a teacher for 8 years, and if someone bought me food that I could use and love at the same time, I'd be SUPER grateful. So sick of the Borders and Starbucks gift cards, coffee mugs, candles, and lotions!

Good luck!

I say go for the group gift, if you can. Teachers receive so many small things that they really cannot use, clutter and the like. A gift card or some other gift with purpose, that really says THANK YOU, is great. I have been part of both group and individual gift situations over the years...school, sports, etc....and it really is so much easier and more practical with the group gifts...I just don't like being the one to collect as we have been stiffed twice (and for a lot of money, relatively speaking)...so I won't collect anymore.

Hi C.,
Some of the best gifts I got when I was teaching Kindergarten were the homemade and the practical:

-stickers for the classroom
-chocolate covered pretzels that the child helped make
-a small gift card to the movies or to Target
-a cute little frame for the class pictures
-Sharpie markers and other office doo dads.

Hope that helps!

Scratch off lottery tickets! They are cheap for you, fun for the teacher & take up NO space. And every body likes the chance to win some money around the holidays.
I was a teacher before becoming a sahm & this was the BEST gift I ever got. AND I didn't win. It was nice to know I was thought of, but I didn't have to feel the need to keep candles or lotions I would never use. I didn't have to feel awkward about accepting an expensive gift card either. And all the other teachers who got the lotto tickets loved them too. (It was a really large family & all the kids gave all the teachers lotto tickets).

I always give my son's teachers money, and as much of it as I can afford. They are SO underpaid it is pathetic and they teach our babies! But you could always ask the director if she knows if Miss Whomever wants something in particular. I usually also try to buy the kid's room something... this year I'm getting them a (cheap) digital camera so they can take pictures during the day and send them to the parents.

I think something nice for both teachers, it can be something small, like a candle or handlotion, a picture frame with a photo of your daughter, a cute craft she has helped make or even a nice note, I don't feel you need to include the aide, unless you know that that person spends a significant amount of time dealing directly with your daughter not just running errands and doing prep work for the teachers.

Personally, I'm not a fan of recieving baked goods. I always wonder if the kitchen is "really" clean and if the kids helped make it and sneezed in the batter etc. Just not knowing grosses me out. So i always dump plates of cookies that are given to me, and the mystery bread- forget it!

Just remember you don't Have to give gifts, it's just a nice way of thanking them for all they do for your little one.

As a scout leader of troops of may sizes over the years, I've gotten many gifts from my kids. Everything from ornaments which can still be found with my christmas decorations every year that get placed on the tree or mantle. The ones appreciated the most are handmade by the child - makes it alot easier to praise the child and encourage them. I have also enjoyed many dozens of cookies over the years - something that doesn't have to be stored - plus I've given many tins of homemade fudge to teachers too.
hope this helps

Every teacher that I know prefers gift cards above all else. I always got the Preschool teachers Panera and then sent it with something home made like peppermint bark/cookies.

One of the sweetest gifts I got from a parent in my 2-3 year olds class was a poem. The mother printed it out on nice paper and framed it.
You can search online for some sweet poems.
This site has some really good ones: http://www.dltk-kids.com/school/poems_for_teachers.htm

How about a nice platter of cookies for them to enjoy and then divvy up later? You can include some cello bags and ties for them to use.

One year we took a colection from all of the parents who wanted to participate and bought a hand painted Santa Claus, it was pretty. It cost us each 2 bucks (4 for both teachers). We put all the kids names on the back and the date. The teachers loved it and still comment on it today years later.
Another idea is food. (cookies, bread, something you make) They could freeze it and pull out when they get company or share with their family. They can only use so many candles or ornaments and if they have been teaching long, they will have tons.
