Hi Ladies -

Hopefully, you can help me in my quest! I am looking for a good preschool/pre-K for my 4 1/2 yo daughter. We live in Tempe, and I am hoping to find something close to McClintock and Guadalupe or w/in a few miles radius. I need something that is part-time, a few hours a day, a few days a week. I am looking for a school that focuses on both social and academic skils (letters, writing, numbers), as I want her to be well-prepared for kindergarten. Does anyone know of any good preschools?

Thanks so much!

Hi D.. There is a really great preschool called Desert Sun Child Development Center located on Elliot between Alma School and Dobson in Chandler. I am not certain about the program for older kids, but I know the 2 year old program is just two days for a few hours. It sounds like just what you are looking for. They have a website, you should be able to find it on Google.

D.,
\My son went to Tempe Christian School, Rural and the 60, for 3 years before stating Kindergarten this year. It is a wonderful school. Loving teachers and administrators. The price is very reasonable. Hopefully they will have openings in your daughter's age group.
I have referred several friends there and all have been happy.

I know of a wonderful, part-time preschool very near where you live -- KING OF GLORY PRESCHOOL! It is located on Southern between McClintock and the 101. It is a part-time preschool that, as you want, focuses on both social and academic skills. It has a wonderful reputation in the southeast valley. One thing I know for sure is that the teaching staff has been there for a long time and they are very, very loving with the kids. Also, it is advertised on Mamasource. Check it out. It sounds just like what you're looking for.

Bright Horizons -- it is located off Elliot and the 101. I highly recommend them. They have a morning program for school or you could have your child in all day as daycare. The learning portion is from 9 to 11:30 and you can choose to send your daughter 2 or 3 days a week. They have a computer lab and you will be given books and DVD's to accompany the computer program for use at home. These are yours to keep and part of your tuition. Give them a call.

Tri-City Christian has a great K-4 program- they are at Southern/Price. My son went there and he was reading well by the end of the year- the teacher was excellent.

Hi D.:

I highly recommend Bethany Learning Center. It is located at Bethany Community Church on Price and Guadalupe. My daughter has just started her second year at this school and loves it. The staff is wonderful, the school is clean and well organized and the other families and students are great! You can check them out at www.blcforjesus.org.

Good Luck!

I just left this post for someone else seeking a great pre-school environment.

I have had my son in Tempe Montessori School since he was 18 months. The school is located off Loop 101 and Broadway. So, I think it is relatively close to you.

We love how the Montessori way focuses on respect for self, respect for others and respect for environment. In addition to academics, he is taught basic life skills.

He is 4 now and has moved onto the Primary Class. The last time I did an observation, the teacher was teaching him geography, countries in South America. You might just want to check it out: www.tempemontessori.org.

If you do end up at a Montessori School, but not TMS, I recommend you make sure it is AMI certified. www.montessori-ami.org.

Best of luck.

Check out the Kyrene school district. Several (if not all) of their schools offer pre-k and they prepare them for their kindergarten program.

Good luck.
