I'm hoping someone out there could provide some good recommendations for a 2 or 3 day a week preschool in Renton for my 2 1/2 year old. I'm specifically looking for something in the Fairwood or Kennydale area. Ideally I'd like to come across a good montessori, but am flexible. Help! I'm hoping there's a hidden gem out there! I'm not planning on having her start for 6 months - year, so a waitlist-type place is fine. Thank you very much!

What can I do next?

My son went to Pied Piper Preschool in Renton (Highlands area). The two teachers are GREAT with the kids. We liked it so much we kept him there for 4's class instead for putting him in preK at his now elementary school. My son really liked going and they did field trips that we as parents got to join in, which was really fun. They work on getting them ready for Kindergarten and have been doing it for many years. My son is doing great in kindergarten, and I know it's because he went to a good preschool. I don't think they take them until they are 3, which I think is the standard if your looking into a Preschool that isn't a daycare also. They are located at 2201 Ne 4th St
Renton, WA 98056 - ###-###-####. They also fill up really fast each year. If you are interested in next year I would call and go check them out now and get your name on the list.
Good Luck!

King of Kings Luthern in Renton off 108th by Fred Meyer is really good. We did 2 years there and my 6 yr old is a strong kinder because of it. I hightly recommend it and look forward to when my youngest is old enough to go.

We go to Sunshine Mountain preschool which is part of Zion Lutheran Church, which is technically in the Kent area. It's not that far if you can drive, but too far to walk from Fairwood. I am not sure, but they may only take them from age 3 up. Do a google search and you will find it.

I have not seen much difference between Montessori schools in this area and a regular preschool. I did comparison shop a lot with my older son (now in 1st grade) and Sunshine Mountain was my first choice. However, they were full. We enrolled him in another preschool which was adequate and fun and nurturing...but now that my second child is at Sunshine Mountain, I see that it is FAR above what we experienced before! I highly recommend it. It's not the curriculum so much, but the people running it and their attitudes towards the parents and kids. It's just more loving, and less dictatorial!

There are two teachers per class, which is a great thing - and lots of one-on-one attention. They do music, art (a lot!), sand table, outdoor play, creative play (dress-up etc.) and have a little library which my son loves. They have a holiday program for which they are teaching the kids songs.

Furthermore, it's not a co-op, which made me sad because I like to volunteer...but realistically, it's hard for me to do so at this point in my life. I get my mom time in on party days when I can visit and help out!

Sunshine Mountain fills up REALLY fast, so the sooner you get her on a list to be enrolled when she IS three, the better.
