Preschool/Daycare

I am moving to Portland in the next month, and I need help finding daycare for my two children (ages 3 and 5). I am interested in a preschool program for my 3 year old (she will be four in October) and a summer camp-like program for my 5 year old (she will be in first grade in the fall). I work full-time so I would need daycare until 5pm. Ideally I would like the girls to be together, but I know that there are few places that cater to a wide age group. Any recommendations would be wonderful!

What can I do next?

For Preschool/School in the fall I highly recommend Tucker-Maxon Oral School. They do have a summer preschool course with aftercare I don't know if your five year old would still qualify for that or not but you should ask. They have a great school and an EXCELLENT preschool.

Hello A., welcome to Portland.
Discoveryland Child Center is wonderful. They are in SE Portland in the Mt Tabor neighborhood. They serve newborn - age 5.
Tucker Maxon Oral School is amazing. They are pre-K through 5th grade and on SE Holgate. Both have websites.

Also, I am doing a "day camp" this summer with children in your kids' age range. I am a licensed teacher and school counselor, and my partner in the camp is a Speech Pathologist. The day camp will be educational and fun. I can send you registration info if you are interested.

Hi A.,
Daycares are tricky, but word of mouth is your best bet. For a preschool, I have put together the most comprehensive list of preschools in the Portland Metropolitan area here: http://www.portlandpreschooldirectory.com. You don't have to sign up to use the site and it's completely free. The preschools are categorized into each section of Portland and their suburbs, so you're not wading through preschools in SW Portland when you really need one in North Portland. Good luck!

I am not sure where in town you are moving - I would highly recomend Tigard Learning Center in Tigard - they have just what you are describing. My kids are older now but they went there for 5 years and many of the same teachers are still there. The number is ###-###-####. Good Luck

You might want to check out Childswork in SE Portland. This is where my son has gone to preschool the last two years and we have been very happy there. I think they might have programs that would meet your needs. Good luck!
