Due to hard times my daughters preschool/daycare is closing on July 1st. We want to get her teachers a going away gift but don't know what to get. We also want to get a cake or cupcakes for the last day but don't know what to get that is appropriate. Any suggestions? Thanx

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I decided on getting them photo books from CVS. I thought that would be a good memory for them since this is their last class there. I wrote to all the parents asking them to chip in $2.00 each and to give me a photo of their child to put in the book. They have a concert on the 29th so that would be a perfect time to give it to them since all of the parents and kids will be together. Thanx for your input.

Since the school is closing, I'm sure the teachers could use some cash. I would suggest collecting $30 to $50 dollars from each family and get TD Bank gift cards (or any gift cards AmEx, Visa, etc.) for each of the teachers.

Cupcakes & cake are always a hit. You could go to Costco and buy a cake with "Thank You for Caring for Our Kids" or something like that. The cost of cakes is so inexpensive, you could get two. If there are children in the class with food issues, you could ask their parent(s) to send something in for them to celebrate with.

You can then send word to all the parents in the class, so some of them can come to celebrate and thank the teachers. Just remember to give the teachers a heads up that you and some parents might come in.

Teachers are still teachers, so anything that will work in their next classroom would be welcome. You could chip in and get her a membership in the Discovery Toys wholesale shoppers club (not an official name!). $115...if you can collect it from the other parents...and she'll be set up in a business involving families and young learners...that will earn her some money until she finds her next gig. www.toysofdiscovery.com

I bought my son's preschool teachers barnes & noble gift cards. I figured they could buy something for themselves, or something for next year's classroom. I think the baked goods may be gift enough, though!

I'd get them a gift card and thank you note.

I think cupcakes or cake would be nice.

Honestly, cash or a Visa gift card. As you say, these are hard times, and these teachers are losing their jobs. They don't need any little trinkets.

We got little clay pots, put the kids handprints on them, crazy glues pretty rocks to them, let the kids paint them, glazed them, then put a flower in them.

The whole thing cost around $12 and the teachers LOVE them :)
