I have started the process of researching preschools in the Chicago area. My son will start in 2007 but most applications are due by the end of this year. My neighborhood public school is Burley. Does anyone have experience with the preschool program there? Also, does anyone have advice on tuition-based vs free preschool in the public schools? I know the basic differences but don't really need to send my son to an all day program but am wondering if the free program at public schools isnt as good as the tuition-based. I'm also considering Drummond, a public Montessori school - any experience with this one?

What can I do next?

My oldest child attended a tuition based program and loved it. We decided to keep him at the school for kindergarten even though it is not our local school. Burley, Blaine, Alcott, Nettlehurst, and Waters (this one is new) all have great reputations. We intend to send our younger child through the same program.

My best advice is trust your instincts on finding the right fit for your child. Good luck and have fun with your search!

On the NW side of Chicago there is a school, Park View Lutheran School and Church. Tuition based, small school. They have a 3 and 4 year old program, but they do have to be potty trained. I found out about it through this website through a fellow mom. I absolutely love the school. When I'm at work I am not worried about him because I know they're taking great care of him and I know he's happy to be there. My son is in pre-school too. There are 7 other pre-schoolers. I like the small class sizes it ensures individualized attention. A bit expensive he goes 5 full days and I pay 155.00 a week. They have 5 half days or 3 days. They got a few different schedule options. The money is completely woorth the piece of mind. Every day he brings home a picture he made. His class activities are always creative and different. I can't say enough good things about the school. Drive by there, they're at 3919 N Monticello off of Irving ____@____.com luck in your search and hope I helped. Great school even for half days. Oh yeah, even preschoolers have to wear uniforms.

I'm not sure where the Burley school district is, but my son did attend a Chicago Public School State PreK program (free) and we were very happy with it.
