Hi C.,
There are some really small/portable microwaves you can take on vacation.
Blessings...
I plan on traveling in the upcoming months with a 14 month old and wanted to know what ways I could prepare food for my child while saving money. Unfortunately the hotel that we are staying in doesn't provide a microwave (without extra fee and being on a budget, had to say no) and really don't want to eat out all the time. I realize I could only do sandwiches for so many days for lunch but what about dinner? So I'm open for suggestions.
We got a rice cooker that steams and we are bringing with us a crock pot. We've tried many meals in them so we have an idea of what we can do while on vacation. Wish me luck!

I have traveled a bunch with my now 3 year old. I had no problem finding quick and easy snacks that at most needed a fridge...the hardest thing to find on vacation eating out or just snacking is veggies. I bought a couple organic canned veggies (carrots, green beens, etc...). They are already soft enough for your little one, or you can mash it a bit. You'll be surprised how many veggies they have in the canned isle. They are canned as soon as they are picked, so they are debatably higher in nutrient than fresh sometimes.
You can buy an inexpensive crock pot and an ice chest. You can even cook some things before your trip, like chicken breasts and rice, freeze it, put it in the cooler with ice, then on the night you're going to eat it, stick it in the crock pot on high for a couple hours. You can buy a hotplate or electric griddle/skillet, or take one if you have it... Depending on where you are going, you can get hot foods from the supermarket deli. Happy travels!
Maybe you could bring a hot plate with you.
