When I was pregnant with my daughter, my obgyn gave me huge prenatal vitamins. By the end of the pregnancy, just the size of them were making me nauseous and throw it right back up :(

I discovered that they do make gummy ones (thank goodness!!) AND I even found some chocolate ones! (Chocolates from Bellybar and gummies from VitaFusion). Has anyone taken any of these before? Another kind?

I will ask my doctor at my appointment, but can doctors give these kind to you (covered by insurance), or would I have to purchase these myself?

I can NOT take those huge pills again! I can't even take Tylenol now without feeling nauseous :(

What can I do next?

I puked my guts out for my entire 2nd pregnancy, so I feel your pain!!

For my last pregnancy, there was a delay in getting my prenatal vitamin prescription from my midwife. She suggested that I take 3 Flintstones a day until we could get things squared away with my prescription.

I just spoke to my pediatrician about giving my toddler and preschooler vitamins because they can't handle the texture of meat, so they won't eat it. Our doc said that I should get regular chewable vitamins and NOT gummies to make sure my kids get plenty of iron because the gummies usually don't have enough in them.

I mention this because I had really low iron levels during all 3 of my pregnancies, so they put me on separate iron pills along with my prenatal vitamins. Ask your OB (or even your pediatrician) which alternative vitamin they recommend so that you make sure to get everything you need without the nasty side effects!

Good luck!!

You're off to a good start-don't forget to eat when you take the vitamins-helps with absorption and nausea-God bless you!

My best friend had horrible morning sickness and her ob had recommended the prenatal gummies ... but they were not covered by insurance.

Your insurance co. most likely will not cover anything gummy or chocolate, b/c these kind are typicaly just over-the-counter types that you can pick up at Walgreens and such.
I usually just take the Flintstones or some other chewable or gummy kind, and forget the "prescription" ones. The most important thing in the first trimester is enough folic acid (at least 800 mcg, possibly 1000 mcg, depending on your OB). Just check the packaging and it will tell you how much folic acid is in each tablet.

Prenatal vitamins gave me migraines, joint pain, cramps, nausea, vomittibg, and non migraine headaches.

Ive heard anywhere from 1:10 to 1:2 women suffer the same symptoms from them. Gag.

My OB just had me chew flintstones throughout the day.
