Prenatal Fitness Classes of Any Sort on Far North Side or Northern Burbs?

I'm looking for any kind of fitness classes specifically geared towards pregnant women. I live in Evanston but I'm willing to travel. Unfortunately I don't have tons of time so it's really got to be no more than 20-30 min away, which means basically the far northern neighborhoods of Chicago or the burbs around Evanston.

With my previous pregnancy I took the prenatal aqua aerobics class at Galter Life Center, but this time the times for the class don't work for me. I've found that Grateful Yoga in Evanston has a prenatal yoga class, too. But that's about all I'm seeing! Is there really nothing else out there for a pregnant mama?

Or, if you don't know of any prenatal classes, any recommendations for relatively light fitness classes that are welcoming of pregnant women?

What can I do next?

For yoga, I would recommend any classes specifically for pregnant women. Check with your delivering hospital for recommendations. They may have something on site.

As for other excerises, I attended my regular classes I attended and informed the instructor. If something doesn't feel good, don't do it. I just took it easier than normal. Walking is great if you can find an indoor track. I'm at week 27, and now am exclusively swimming. I'm not a great swimmer. I'm working with a swim coach every two weeks and using every implement there is (fins, noodle, ect). I get to the pool when it works for my schedule and it is costing me $5 each time. (Swim coach is separate). I'm located outside your range, but look for local clubs or YMCA.

Best of luck!

I highly recommend Bloom Yoga. I went there for both of my pregnancies. Try and get a class with Kerry. She is fantastic!

Try Hip Circle Studio in South Evanston www.hipcirclestudio.com. Malik is a former doula (my doula) and opened a lovely little studio for fitness. Tell her J. sent you.

Hi J.,

I've heard great things about Bloom Yoga. I never made it over there myself (I was elsewhere during my first pregnancy and exhausted beyond belief with #2), but I have friends who went there and liked it. It's at 4600 something N. Rockwell, so not a huge schlepp from Evanston. www.bloomyogastudio.com

Best of luck!

Try Evanston Hospital-that's where I took my prenatal classes. Or maybe Glenbrook Hospital. Evanston Athletic Club had classes, too(at the time you didn't have to be a member-that may have changed). Good luck!!
