Premature Thelarche

My daughter, now 23 months, has premature thelarche. It was diagnosed at 6 months. Has anyone else's child had this? What has your pediatrician done? My daughter's ped has not done any tests but just keeps saying to monitor it, even though she went from being 30th percentile height to 85th percentile height in 6 months and her right breast seems to be getting bigger. I keep reading that it's usually benign, but that it can also be caused by a tumor. I don't know if I should trust my ped or be concerned.

What can I do next?

If it eases your mind, get a second opinion. Pediatricians can and do make errors. Never hurts to double-check. Best of luck with your little ones.

I have a 8 year old and 4 year old. They do not have premature thelarche. My son at the age of 3 months had to have kidney surgery. That was a rough thing, but in the end he has had no problem. I would go by your instinct. If you mommy radar is telling you need to get a second opinion I would. Don't ever
double guess your self. I also have a friend who son had a benign tumor in his hip(he is 7) he has has many mri's. The doctor said he could grow out of it or they could do surgery. The parents are still seeking other opinions. I hope that helps. Be blessed.

My son was born with a blclp he's now 3 1/2. The only advice I could give you is check with another Ped Dr. Listen to your instincts. If you don't feel comfortable with what the Peds Dr. is saying try another. We had to do that with our son, and so glad we did. My son wouldn't look as good as he does if we hadn't found another dr. Good Luck!

My daughter now 4 was diagnosed with this at her 2 year old well baby check up. She had begin to develop breasts on her right side and then her left but the right being bigger. She had her hormones tested by a blood test and then an ultrasound to look at her uterus and ovaries. She had a cyst on her right ovary and then later developed more. She also had on inside her spleen. About a year ago the cysts finally went away. Yes this can be caused by a tumor however, if they have tested her hormones and looked at her ovaries and uterus then she is probably okay but something to definitely be monitored. I would certainly request those tests, the blood and ultrasound, if your peds doc. has not done so. This cannot be ruled out as nothing unless those are done. Especially with her growth as it is. I would also request a referral to an endocrynologist. I think that is how you spell it. They specialize in this and diabetes. If you have any questions let me know. We have been through it all. Good luck. Also look for any hair growth or bleeding like a period. If you see this take her to your doctor as soon as you can. It needs to be treated.
