My 4 yr old will be starting prek this yr and me and my husband are trying to get a head start on what we need to buy...does anyone know what kids usually need in prek or does it vary from school to school?

What can I do next?

Just like most other responses I would suggest waiting until the first day. I teach 4 year olds and give a supply list and "wish" list on the first day of school. Have a great school year!!

It really does vary! In my daughter's 3K class, she needed a tote bag (they decorated them) and some baggies, clorox wipes, crayons. In 4K, they just wanted us to bring copy paper and $10 to pay the teacher back for supplies! Really, contacting the school is always the best bet!

Call your preschool. Every preschool and elememtary school has different requirements. Don't waste any money or time until you check with your school. Many preschools have a standard "supply" fee that parents pay and the school then purchase everything.

Hey C. it varies from school to school. You can call the school and they can tell you what you will need.

My daughter is in K-2, about to go into K-3. They sent home a list of things she needed. Mostly it's the usual: blanket, small pillow (if needed), diapers/pullups/undies, wipes, and some school supplies like glue bottle, 8 count jumbo crayons, a folder (for their homework), and a plastic pencil box. That's it, but check with her school first. I buy 3 of each of crayons and glue. That way she always has it if she needs it in the future. And for home projects too like homework and things she brings home.

I worked at a pre-k in California for two years. We didn't request or require anything for the children attending. It was a half day program so it may be different for a full day program. Some kids did like to bring backpacks so they'd "feel" like they were going to school. We discouraged this practice since we didn't have alot of storage space. I would wait to purchase anything til you go to a pre-briefing before the start of the school year. The director/teacher will be able to give you a better of idea of what is allowedor even call ahead if you can't pry yourself away from the cute school supplies in stores now. Hope this helps!

Depends on the school. My daughter went to Pre K through the Head Start program and all I needed to send to school was a complete change of clothes and a blanket. She also needed a small back pack to bring papers home in. Everything else was provided for them. Best bet is to call the school and see what the need. Don't forget, GA has sales tax free holiday Aug 2-5 for school supplies!! Might save you some money if you need to get a lot of stuff!

Hello C..
It all depends on the school. You should get in contact with the school he'll be going to. Sometimes schools have stuff like that posted on their website. Good luck!
