I would call right away and have the docs office tell you when to come in. They know best.
Congrats!
How long after getting a positive pregnancy test at home should you call a doctor? I've read or heard so many different things. I am already doing prenatal pills and just got a postive a couple days ago. I've seen anywhere from 6-10 weeks. What did you all do?
I would call right away and have the docs office tell you when to come in. They know best.
Congrats!
Every doctor seems to be a little different as to when they want to see you, mine wanted to see me at right weeks while a friend's didn't want to see her until twelve. I called the day after I took the test to make the appointment.
I call the doc as soon as I had a positive test result. Doctor had me come in when I was 6 weeks. CONGRATS!
Congrats! I personally called my doctor right away because I know that my doctor likes to see you at 8 weeks to make sure the baby is in the right spot and listen to the heartbeat and stuff early. Some doctors don't do this until 12-14 weeks, but I would still call your doctor right away so that you know when they want to see you, as well as a just in case, heaven forbid, something were to go wrong like an ectopic pregnancy then they can be prepared and tell you what to look for.
You should call and make your appointment so you don't have to wait to get in once you are ready. They usually make your appt. for about 10 weeks to let the pregnancy progress a little bit, so it won't be for awhile anyway, but if the dr.'s office you want is a busy one, you won't want to wait to get an appointment. Good luck with your pregnancy! :)
I went to the doctor at 8 weeks with number 1 and like 10 or 12 with number 2.
I would suggest you give your doctor a call as soon as you can. It can be hard to get an appointment, especially if they are good. If they are good, it means they are busy. The sooner you call the better. You can still wait to go, but at least you will have an appointment. Also, you should just ask your doctor when they like to see you for the first time.
You will want to call your doctor asap. They wil most likely schedule you in at about 10 weeks, but if you do not call so they might fill up with other appointments and you will have to wait longer. So I would call now, I always called within a day or two of finding out.
Most doctors want you to come in at least once in the first trimester (before 12 weeks). But you should just call their office and ask. It's common with your first pregnancy to want to see someone right away, but it's not really necessary as there is not much they can do except give you advice like eat healthy foods, take your prenatal vitamins, what drugs to avoid. I've had 5 pregnancies, and at this point I don't usually see anyone until about half-way through my pregnancy.
I called right away. They didn't actually see me until I was about 12 weeks along, though.
Most doctors wont even schedule an appointment with you until you're 9-12 weeks. If you call now, they will ask you when your last period was and from there they will determine when you're far along enough to go in. So call and get the appointment for now.
I was 4 weeks along with my last one and scheduled my first appt with my OB the following week. they confirmed the pregnancy told me how far along I was and did a sonogram to check everything was fine,
Congratulations to you and your family!!!
I say about 8 weeks sometimes the doc will say sooner so just call the doctor and ask what you should do! Congrates and good luck...

Don't wait to call your doctor. Call them tomorrow. They may be full for a few weeks and if you wait, you will be getting in way too late for your first appointment. One time I called a doctor that I had my heart set on using, only to find out they weren't taking any new OB patients at the time, and had to start my search all over again.
Congrats, and take those prenatals! :)
First of all - congratulations on your pregnancy!
Usually your first visit with the doc is 6 weeks but dont wait until then to call them. Call now because it can sometimes take 3-4 weeks to get an appointment, especially if they are going to do an ultrasound to confirm that it is a viable pregnancy.
All the best to you!
i called and scheduled mine when i got positive home tests. it was a verification that i actually was, for sure for sure. made me feel better to know without a doubt, and talk to an "expert" about questions i had.
I don't know how easy it is to get apts at your doc's office, but I always call as soon as I get a positive. Reasons being: You can get your appointment scheduled for your 8 week visit. You have something to look forward to. Your doc (and his/her nurses!!) know that you are pregnant and you can call them with questions and not have to fill them in continually. Sometimes there are help/assistance programs that your ob/gyn will have available to you for even that early stage!! Call now. Why wait? If you begin to have problems sooner than 8 weeks then your doc can help you be more helpful. :)
Congratulations!!!

It just depends on how long it will take you to get an appointment. There is no care protocol and you cannot hear the baby's heartbeat until about 10 weeks. If you see a midwife (I loved mine!) or another provider who takes extra time to emphasize preventive self-care, you might get good nutrition counseling early on, but other than that, there is no real specific care very early on.
For my third baby, my first appointment was at 12 weeks, but I had been interviewing midwives before then, and one confirmed my pregnancy at about 6 weeks. I suppose if you needed your pregnancy reconfirmed, that would be another reason for very early care.
Congrats on your growing family!
Mine had me come in early to discuss all that I should be doing, but didn't actually see me (I saw a nurse the first time) until I was around 8 weeks along. Congratulations!
My doctor has you wait until your are a week past expected period and have had a positive home test. Then have the test at the lab. You could always call your doc and see what they want you to do :-)
Good luck, have fun.

I think it really is up to your OB.... mine won't see you until 8 weeks. Even at that point they can't hear the heartbeat, but you can see it.
I think the reason they want you to wait until at least 8 weeks is because there isn't much to see before then since it is so small.... Just call your OB and see what they suggest. If your doc is like most it takes weeks to get in anyhow :)
Good luck and congrats!
You should call your doctor tell them you have a positive pregnancy test. They will schedule the appt appropriately. Usually they do it around 8 weeks.
You should see a doctor at about 8 weeks, so if you are unsure of the exact weeks I would make an appointment and tell them you are unsure of how many weeks so they can so an ultrasound.
I took two tests at home on two different days, and when both came back positive I called my doctor. I was in less than a week later and I was almost 7 weeks. The earlier you start with your doctor the better, good luck and congratulations!
I called right after with both my pregnancies. In Virginia they wanted me to come in right away. In Texas, even after telling them that I miscarried, they told me to wait until I was 6 weeks. I would call the doctor and let them decide when you should be seen.
Most Doctors like to see you at 10 weeks along, and it depends on how busy your doctor is, so I would call right away and schedule an appointment to see him when you are 10 weeks (or whenever your nurse tells you they like to see you.) Congrats! :)
I took one of those early result tests 2 days prior to my due date. It was positive, so I took another the day after I was due and it was still positive, so that is when I called my OB. She had me come in the next week, which put me at 6 weeks along. With my previous 2 kids, it was the same way. Every doctor is different. It doesn't hurt to call them now and see what they say. It's not a bad thing to start prenatal care early!
Congrats on the pregnancy!
