Pregnant...toothache...

This past week or so I have had a toothache that kind of comes and goes. Sometimes I don't feel anything...and when I do..it's not excrutiating-I-can't-bear-it kind of pain...just kind of...there. There have been a few nights that I have taken a tylenol to help me get to sleep...but if I'm tired enough...the pain doesn't keep me up (does that make sense?). My dental insurance kicks in in a few weeks (I have medical)...but obviously, if this is something that will be harmful to the baby for me to let it go on that long...I'll get it taken care of sooner and figure something out. This evening I've noticed a slight ear/jaw pain...I'm guessing it's probably related. I know a lot of people that say they have had teeth 'issues' during pregnancy...This is the first time in my LIFE I've ever had a toothache! Ssuggestions? Should I have it looked at sooner and deal with payment? Or is it something that can wait a couple weeks? Like I said...I'm fine...it's just my baby that I'm worried about - I'm about 9 weeks. I've used some essential oils...and they've provided me with relief...but I'm not really worried about me. Anyway...thoughts?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I was actually just looking up a few things online that suggested sinuses...I guess that's a possibility too. It's almost a 'pressure' type pain...seems worse when I lay down (doesn't feel too good after I wake up from a nap)...hopefully I can handle waiting a few weeks :p.

**This morning I woke up with all kinds of pressure on the side of my nose...*sigh* Guess I'll be making an appointment with my Dr. What's weird about the toothache...I couldn't just pinpoint what tooth hurts...it's just kind of the general area in my mouth is sore. Ugh. I hate antibiotics...when I'm pregnant and on antibiotics, I tend to get the yeast infection from hell. :p

Try tying a knot in a string of floss and pulling the floss through. It does sound like a sinus infection, though. Try Neil Med sinus rinses. Between that and Mucinex, I just got through one without antibiotics. Taking baths with a cup of vinegar always helped ease the yeast infections for me when I was pregnant. GL! I hope you feel better soon.

I am dealing with the same exact thing, and am also 5 months pregnant. I took Tylenol for a few weeks, avoided anything very sweet, spicy, too hot or cold and put a heating pad on my jaw area when I slept on those bad nights. I have a cavity, saw my dentist last week for the xray/check-up and he scheduled my cavity filling for next week ,he's a family friend and knows I'm pregnant and said it's okay to wait a little while. So, you and your little one should be fine to wait a few weeks when your insurance kicks in, if you can handle waiting.

You can wait unless it becomes infected. Infection will cause excruciating pain, swelling, and maybe fever. Since you have medical maybe go to your doc and have sinus ruled out.

It's most likely sinus pressure if it's not bothering you that bad. Try to see what kind of sinus meds you can take and see it that helps. If not, I'd get an appt. for in a few weeks when you get insurance. If it gets to be bad pain though, get in right away.

I was going to suggest that it sounds like an abscessed tooth. I've had one and the pain started out like yours and progressed quickly, I couldn't have waited a few weeks to get it taken care of. I'd go to your OB to start.

I would call the ob/gyn in the morning and have them check it out. Even if it is an abscessed tooth antibiotics will relieve the pain for a time.

But the tooth may have to be worked on as soon as possible.

My state offers free dental care to pregnant women who qualify for a medical card so I think it's okay for the baby to have work done.

I just read your SWH and laughed because I was going to suggest sinus pressure. This summer I had excruciating pain just like you described. Stupid me, I went to Prompt Care on the weekend and they sent me to the ER for a Cat Scan only to be told I had sinusitis! I felt ridiculous, but the meds they gave me cleared it up pretty quickly.

I would just call your primary care physician and start there. Hopefully they can give you something to clear it up for you. Or help you out if it's something else.

Good luck!

I have sinus issues and OFTEN get tooth pain because of it. Try putting some ice (or a bag of frozen veggies) on your face while reclining but not laying fully down. That might help take some of the pressure off.

But it you do indeed have a tooth problem, just see a dentist and get it taken care of. They will work with your OB/GYN to help you out. You can get an xray if needed, too. So don't worry.

Also, if you have a regualr dentist, ask him to bill you once the insurance comes through.
