Hello, I am pregnant with my third child and notice that this time around I am getting bigger much faster than I did with my first two. My question is two years ago I have gall bladder surgery and they removed it. I had a cut on my belly button and two incisions on my lower right side and then one cut on the top of my stomach. The past couple of weeks I have been having some pain around this area of where they cut me on the top of my belly. I have asked a couple of nurses I know personally and they have mentioned that with surgery also comes scar tissue and so that could be the pain and stretching that I am feeling. It is all centered around this cut and sometimes gets pretty intense. I have a drs appt on thursday so I am going to talk with him about it then. But, what I wanted to know is has anyone else had this same issue with scar tissue and if you know of anything that helps right now I am doing warm baths massaging the area as I am in the bath, ice packs and ibuprofen. I was told that there is really nothing to do for it and sometimes they give you pain meds but I would like to stay away from those so any suggestions or anything at all would be really helpful at this point. Oh, I am 15 weeks, 3 days and hopefully am finding out on thursday what I am having!!!

Thanks for your help!!
Jenn

Yes, there is something you can do about it. I would go see the doc I go to, Dr .Sarah Whiley, she specializes in Mayan Abdominal Massage & pregnancy. Here's her site: http://www.kwanyinhealingarts.com/pactitioners/dr-sarah-w... & her number: ###-###-#### I've had a hard pregnancy as well & she's helped tons! Good luck.

I also have some pain during pregnancy because of internal scar tissue. Mine has been tolerable, but you can take tylenol. Sometimes I find yoga helpful.

Good luck and congrats. I'm pregnant with my third also.

Congratulations! I'm also preggo with #3, never had surgery, but with this pregnancy, my belly has gotten bigger a lot sooner (I was thinking it was twins, but nope, just one!) Around my belly-button, I've had very sharp twinges that I never experienced with my other pregnancies. It has since gone away (I'm 33 weeks) but if I moved in a certain way, the twinge felt like a big kick and would take my breath away, scaring the dickens out of me (and my hubby when I would yelp in pain.) My doc. assured me that this was normal.
I would definitely ask yours though, and good luck!

Yes it is normal and happens. I had my gall bladder removed 4 months after I had twins. 6 months later i got pregnant again. While the 3 smaller incisions never bothered me, the one up top did. I always assumed it was the scar tissue stretching. i would rub it when it hurt and out extra lotion on it to make sure that the scar tissue was as supple as I could make it. Hang in there. I think I had it until about 6 months and then it started up again around week 32.

It sounds like the pain your experiencing is worse than any I've had - I too am currently pregnant with my third and have lots of abdominal scar tissue. So, I would definitely ask your doctor about it. But, your nurse friends are hitting the issue correctly.

When you have abdominal surgery they have to cut through several layers of tissue and muscle and scar tissue builds up and when the growing baby forces that scar tissue to stretch and move it is painful. I've had two C-sections and lots of scar tissue from taking insulin shots and when I was around 14 weeks (I'm 17 weeks now) I nearly scratched parts of my skin raw because it itched more than was painful.

It is natural to get bigger faster with each pregnancy but I'm sure the surgery affected your muscles some and that could be why you feel bigger too. I wonder if a belly support band might help relieve some of you pain? You might want to ask the doctor about that too.

Good Luck and I hope you feel better soon, I don't have any good remedy ideas because like I said, your pain is worse than what I've had - which makes me worry about how your healed from the surgery too. But, then again, all of my scar tissue is lower abdomin (below my belly button), nothing is near my belly button or above it and for me those areas are far more sensitive (which is why I don't take any shots there) so that might be part of it too. Sorry, this probably isn't very helpful but I do hope your doctor has some insight for you and that you do feel better soon.

It is probably the scar tissue. I had some pain on my c section scar. You really are not supposed to take ibuprofen when pregnant unless your Dr gives the ok. Stick with Tylenol.

Hi Jenn,

I am 11wks and have been having the worst pain ever in my lower stomach. I first went to the emergency room because this is my first and i was very scared that i may be losing the baby. They said i had a urinary tract infection and a kidney infection. So i got antibiotics for that and the nexrt day the pains were worst. I got in to see my regular doc and they did a ultra sound and the baby was fine so that was a lot of relief so again i was sent home with no answers. Two days later the pains would come ever 2-3 minutes and last about 10 seconds. I went back to the doctor and they did another ultra sound and he seen my scar from my previous surgery about 8 yrs ago. He said that was my problem. The scar tissue from the surgery was causing me more pain than normal because of the stretching although its a relieve that everything will be ok i still have this pain and no way to relieve it. If you every get a solution for that please let me know. I have found out that if i apply pressure to my lower stomach it helps ease the pain just a bit. I no i didnt heop but i do feel your pain.

Thank care,
V.

Hi there, I have a 7 month old girl! I also had my spleen removed in an emergency when I was 16, 12.5 years ago. With this emergency surgery they cut from sternum to bellybutton. I was really nervous about what my scar would do during my pregnancy, but it actually did pretty well. I rubbed Vitamin E on it alot and kept my belly moisturized. I don't specifically remember it hurting, but it did itch. Could have something to do with age of scar. Good luck and congratulations.

Congratulations!

I've never been pregnant but I've had pain from scar tissue. Your belly is quickly expanding which gives no time for the healthy tissue around the scarred muscle tissue to accomodate for the scar tissues' lack of ability to stretch. Hopefully the pain will lesson over time.

My experience with scar tissue is related to the removal of endometrial tissue from my abdomen. Jarring my abdomen results in pain because the scar tissue prevents my internal organs from moving. I suppose that is a possibility for you but I would doubt it.
