When I was pregnant I ate as much red meat as possible, steak whenever I could convince the hubby to grill in the snow, and strawberries. And onion rings. I never liked onion rings before I got pregnant.
2 Favs while pregnant
-Banana with PB
-whole wheat bagel toasted with cream cheese and jam (my donut substitute)
My thing with this pregnancy has been yogurt, I don't know why but I can't get enough of it. I have been known to down 3 or 4 of the Apple Turnover ones from Yoplait a day. I have also been eating a lot of bananas, I put them in my cereal in the morning, or for dinner lol. Oh, also string cheese, that one is weird to me. Up until maybe 2 weeks ago the smell of hamburger vevolted me, which made no sense because we didn't know I was pregnant for a while.
With the other pregnancies (this is number 4, baby number 3) it was something different each time. With our oldest it was steak and potatoes, he was born in January and my husband was still grilling me steaks in the snow. With our 2 year old it was fresh fruit of any kind and mexican food (not Taco Bell) with the one we lost I wasn't far enough to notice anything.
I remember with one of my pregnancies I could only eat tomato soup and tater tots during the first trimester. LOL
It varies, Lots and lots of fruit, but i go through phases for other stuff. The trick is to eat what you crave. But that may change like the wind so do smaller grocery trips more often.
What got me through the "yuck, food, gross" stage of both my pregnancies were good navel oranges. And I was SO picky about them...they had to be totally sweet and not sour or tart. I eventually only bought the Disney brand...yes, Disney oranges. They were the best. And orange juice...good, sweet, pulpless orange juice. Those are the only things I craved when I was pregnant.
However, as far as eating more than oranges...I ate dry Chex (rice and that new Honey Nut are my favorites), cashews, peanut butter, Nutella, bananas...that was a lot of my diet for breakfasts and lunches. Dinners never changed, but I skipped plenty because the smell would get to me.
Just keep eating whatever tastes good to you, trust that your baby is letting you know what he or she likes and doesn't like. Just be sure that you stay hydrated and get some form of protein into diet. The fruits and veggies are great, cereal with milk is good, apple sauce, oatmeal and rasins are fine too. Just try and keep up with the calcum in whatever form you can along with protein.
Be well and depending on what stage you're at in your pregnancy you appetite may change on dime. You may find yourself suddenly wanting steak and fries or cupcakes with tons of frosting. LOL
I just wanted bread. Like crusty french bread, maybe a little butter. Not the healthiest thing, but white carbs will help put some lbs on if you need it, that's for sure!
Hope you feel better soon!
:)
With my first pregnancy I drank gallons of orange juice it had to be Simply Orange with Pineapple over ice. I also ate a ton of Dryers Fruit bars only the lime and tangerine ones. I did not have any morning sickness with that pregnancy either. This time I had horrible morning sickness and iced decaf tea was about the only thing that would stay down. Now my drink of choice is ice water with concentrated lemon juice- can't be fresh lemons I can taste the bitterness of the rind. LOL. I seem to be craving salty stuff this go around which is weird because I don't usually salt my food when I cook. I am eating a lot more fresh veggies this go around but it's counter acted by tons of ranch dressing! Thankfully I am over the mornign sickness and can stomach just about anything as far as taste goes but if something smells funky forget it.
